I donโ€™t want a left Stephen Miller, I want strong civic institutions and healthy media environment to say โ€œwhat the fuckโ€ to any right or left psychopath.

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes

What the study found โ€” METR measured the speed of 16 developers working on complex software projects, both with and without AI assistance. After finishing their tasks, the developers estimated that access to AI had accelerated their work by 20% on average. In fact, the measurements showed that AI had slowed them down by about 20%. The results were roundly met with surprise in the AI community. โ€œI was pretty skeptical that this study was worth running, because I thought that obviously we would see significant speedup,โ€ wrote David Rein, a staffer at METR, in a post on X.

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

We know we need to run everywhere, organize everywhere, fight everywhere โ€“ especially in red, rural districts.

Too often the logistics get in the way.

"How can I afford to run?"
"Who will help me?"
"Will I be doing this alone?"

Blue Missouri answers those questions. 1/

On Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom and recommit ourselves to the work that remains undone. We remember that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope for tomorrowโ€™s light.

Chatbots โ€” LLMs โ€” do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When theyโ€™re โ€œrightโ€ itโ€™s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. Thatโ€™s all.

Meta launched Threads two years ago and yet, Threads doesnโ€™t have a functional ActivityPub integration

In the meantime, it took @ghost.org less than a year and only 8 people to build a full ActivityPub client

I think it says everything about how important federating Threads actually is to Meta

The Trump Administration's forcible removal of Senator Padilla today is un-American and unacceptable. Our elected officials have a right โ€” and a duty โ€” to conduct oversight of President Trump's abuses of power.

As much as the administration wants to silence dissent, we the people won't back down.

The only appropriate response to what Trump is doing is impeachment and removal from office. Elected officials who are not working toward this goal with urgency are helping to destroy the constitution and the rule of law.

We drill into military officers that Members of Congress have Constitutional oversight rights, Members outrank four-stars in protocol, and even Congressional staffers are treated like generals/admirals.

To see sworn federal officers manhandle and handcuff a U.S. Senator... I'm still shook up.

BREAKING: A federal court ruled there's no legitimate basis for Mahmoud Khalil's continued detention, and that it's unconstitutional for the Trump administration to use vague foreign policy grounds to deport people.

This is a win for free speech. We won't stop fighting until Mahmoud is released.

RFK Jr will be testifying before Congress.

I am interested in what experts and others think would be the best way to leverage this time and opportunity for the public good.

If you were behind the dais for this hearing, what would you do? What do you want to see asked?

Don't just say it's unconstitutional, remind people that the constitution is full of very good ideas designed to prevent authoritarianism, and most people who want to ignore it want that specifically because they are authoritarian.

This is excellent work @honeypisquared.bsky.social. I really hope more studies are in this vein for larger datasets, broader subjects. Iโ€™ve had numerous discussions on risks vs humans unable to tell that subtle changes in wording (let alone hallucinations) can really corrupt the knowledge spit out

We found that AI tools - both general like #ChatGPT and research-specific like #Elicit - lack the reliability, relevancy and accuracy to summarise research for teachers. This is important because we have been sold the idea that AI will make research more accessible.
