πŸ’― with you on that. Our UNESCO heritage site certainly does need urgent improvements! Greenwich foot tunnel is also of great historical value & an *invaluable asset* for commuters.Struggling up & down steps with a bike, pram (no chance for wheelchairs) is unacceptable. @inclusionlondon.bsky.social

Two disabled people sitting in a city park. They are facing one another, laughing and grinning. One is a white woman in a leather skirt with long sandy hair. The other is a black man with a limb difference. The image has a jagged yellow frame. The words β€˜run by and for disabled people’ appear in bold capitals underneath the picture on orange tape. Matching orange arrows point to the picture and words.

Transport for All is a Disabled Person's Organisation or DPO. That means we are led by and for disabled people. We understand the barriers disabled people face to transport, because we experience them. Find out more about the impact we have: https://bit.ly/435rQ4c

Lewisham's cycleway network has trebled in size (or has it?) Transport for London hailed the increase in cycleways in Lewisham, but large parts of the "new" routes already existed.

The Mayor must explain why our Foot Tunnels, which provide cross river cross borough links for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users & mobility cycles do not qualify to be part of TfL Strategic Network. @sebdance.bsky.social @transportforall.org.uk

The tunnels are cross borough transport infrastructure. Why can’t TfL take responsibility rather than just one borough fighting for funding from another? Can’t they adjust LIP funding to the three boroughs to cover costs? Something must be done!

"With high numbers of families in temporary housing, wouldn’t it make much more sense to reserve some of this prime land for the council to build social housing on? At the very least one of these car parks should be kept for council homes instead of selling them off for peanuts.”

🚽 World Toilet Day today and I’m off to join the @londonlooalliance.bsky.social at White Hart Lane to enjoy one of the new toilets installed by TfL.

πŸ’· So glad that I eventually got the Mayor to put Β£3m a year for five years into improving toilet availability on the transport network.

More than 50 trees on Woolwich Common that were set to be chopped down have been given a reprieve - at least for now - after an application to widen a road was taken off a planning committee’s agenda.

Plans for a new cycle lane had received over 500 objections.

In France for a break. The sheer number of cargo bikes you see in cities and larger towns is really encouraging. It doesn’t seem to be a novellty or a fad.

There's a new and helpful TFL update on the Cutty Sark Station escalators. They seem to have made decent progress in September and October.

Londoners slam broken foot tunnel lifts dividing north and south of Thames A residents’ campaign group says years of neglect have left the tunnel lifts unreliable, unsafe, and excluding the most vulnerable

Greenwich Foot Tunnel should be a KEY Thames crossing - but with the North Side lift broken for months, disabled people, parents with prams, and cyclists say they're being cut off from jobs, family and everyday life.

You don’t have to ban cars everywhere to transform your city centre. But you do have to seriously rethink and redefine the car’s role. There are many ways to do that, from #completestreets to #sharedstreets, pedestrian priority streets & Dutch #woonerfs, that prioritize streets for people, not cars.

Unfortunately it is not the "how" that is in debate here, it is the need to convince TfL to take over the Tunnels. It may be that some Statutory Instrument has to be laid down in the Commons to transfer ownership but that would only be if TfL agreed to take them over.

10.11.2025 20:05 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

TfL may not be interested in taking on the foot tunnels but they are critical infrastructure providing a resilient way for people to cross the river east of tower bridge under their own steam. If TfL can build Silvertown Tunnel for people with cars then they can provide lifts for people on foot.

Not sure Riverlinx (nor TfL) should charge for walking through this tunnel. Surely poor PR for the mayor when he’s encouraging active travel.
