Since there seems to be some disbelief on here that it ever happens, yes petroleum etc nationalisations are, & have long been, a thing.

NB: per the fundamental principle in international law of permanent sovereignty over natural resources.

Also, compensation needs to be paid to rights owners.

Obviously they would need to pay compensation to rights' owners, otherwise it's confiscation not nationalisation.

They are free to nationalise their oil, mining sector etc. if they like. Permanent sovereignty of natural resources - subsoil minerals including oil - is a fundamental principle in international law, accepted by most but not all countries. USA is an obvious exception, and UK is a partial exception.

What is even more impressive to me is that, for the media: IEA acronym = the think tank & not the very prominent (in my world) International Energy Agency. TBH, I cannot even remember what the IEA think tank acronym stands for, just that they keep popping up in the media (the point of Alex's post).

This definitely happened in real life.

The polls have almost nailed it. On average, @irishpollingind.bsky.social was only 0.54 points away from election result (max: 0.85). Spot on for FF and FG.

Irish pollsters are better than their reputation, and online polls are not worse than face-to-face surveys.
