What's something you wish you knew when you first became a witch? I'll start:

Expecting spirits to always communicate in words or as humans do can lead to miscommunication. Spirits can "speak" in images, emotional impressions, scents, tones/sounds/music, and more.

I also really wish I'd had some awareness of Traditional/Folkloric Witchcraft. It likely would have changed the trajectory of my journey.

November flew by in a flurry of social visits and I’ve not been on bsky much, so… thought I’d share that yesterday I gathered 3 gallons of seawater and am boiling it down today for some hand-crafted local sea salt for magical use. Will keep some and give some as gifts. 🌊🧂 #witchsky

Happy Samhain, friends! Today I'm thinking more about the spirit(s) of my house. It was built 100 years ago this year, and has changed hands a number of times--I'm only its most recent resident and steward. My plans for tonight include some divination around what it should be called. #witchsky

In front of my house there are two ornamental hawthorn trees. Not long after moved in, I dreamed someone was tearing them out, taking them from me. At some point I started making offerings to them (and those that live in them) on full moons, and we all seem happier for it. #witchsky

This house, which I bought 4 years ago, has healed my heart. Never have I lived in a place where I've felt so *held*; it's waited patiently for me to work through what I needed to work through. It has seemed alive since the day I moved in; I think it needs a name. Maybe it already has one. #witchsky

That could be! Maybe there just needs to be more normalizing of things looking and smelling weird and that being absolutely okay, desirable even. 😊

It's so hard for me to hang on and keep reading when I come across things that strain the credibility of the author, but you have a great point! There still might be some valuable insights.

When I make oils or other things for magical work, it often smells... not great. Not all of the needed plant allies smell good, alone or together. There seems to be an idea that magic should smell pleasing and look nice, but I've not found that to be the case. It's magic, not aromatherapy. #witchsky

Oh, I really like this. I’m fond of the idea that consciousness is a fundamental property of the universe, and us being spun into existence through magic would be a wonderful product of that.

It’s like a vast mycelium, a pervasive fabric of interwoven, living threads that occasionally produces fruiting bodies above the surface of our awareness.

Work with, yes. Dedicated to a particular deity or working with one exclusively, no. Some more than others, and it changes over time. I tend to approach deity as I would other spirits, but the respect due someone that has inspired the devotion of countless others over the span of millennia.

I once rented a house that had a huge stand of motherwort in the front yard. It was such a magical place, and your post reminded me of it--thank you! ❤️

Had a really intense (but amazing!) ritual with my coven on Sunday and have been processing it since then. We're a fairly young group and experiencing some growing pains, but when things come together they *really* come together. I'm so grateful to have them, and our group, in my life. #witchsky

I just picked that one up too, but haven't started reading it yet. It's such a beautifully bound book! The edges, end papers, cover, dust jacket... so yummy.

Mary Magdalene was a necromancer. Whenever someone gets raised from the dead, she's around. She anoints with herbs and oils before and after death, and is the first one to see the risen person.

Not a *great* theory (and a very lightly-held one at that), but as far as I know a unique one. 😉

That's a really good point. I would give myself extra care if I was going through something emotionally difficult in my waking life, it stands to reason that I should for my dreaming self as well. She is me, after all, and the sense of loss is the same.
