I’ve been asked to speak about my career to date at a book launch/uni event. Given I’m literally being made redundant very soon, I’ve begged a friend who didn’t even go to my uni to come with me as emotional support, so there will be someone in the room I can look at like I’m on the Office.

Recommended tips if you’re having a bad week:

- take a sick day from work
- attend an Ed Sheeran concert with your sibling
- go HAM on the floor
- make friends with strangers from the next state over, take photos with them and forget to ask to exchange social media handles

Actually very funny to me to think that I’m exceptionally good at “remembering” (using systems to remember) anything and everything for work. I’m also known to collect many, many little facts.

Btw I interviewed for a production controller job last week and after a question about organisation, the interviewer said “so you put the control in controller”. I laughed on the inside

I’m not writing off the whole year but MAN, fuck January. Literally day 1 back to work after the new year, I found out my company was being shut down AGAIN and I’m being made redundant 💀 This happened to my last company too. I love books but I don’t think book publishing loves me

It’s just gone 4am and I’ve finally made it home and into bed. Sore feet, makeup off, dress and leather jacket slung over my desk chair. New year, same me, but an exciting new start to it, being in the city for the fireworks for the first time in a long time.

My brother couldn’t believe I guessed that the wolf head was sewn into the robe (although I didn’t figure out the replacement knife). BBC Sherlock simply lives in my brain because I connected it to the Sholto situation in TSOT almost immediately.

BY THE WAY I need to report that I finally watched Wake Up Dead Man two days ago and I LOVED IT way more than I expected to. Leaps and bounds better than Glass Onion. Probably on par with Knives Out for me. Josh O’Connor continues to astound.

FWIW I like living in Australia, I don’t take it for granted. It’s just one of the ultimate cons that flights out of the country are soooo expensive. 🥴

Finding it really weird and difficult to not have an overseas trip to look forward to next year. I don’t really buy clothes or do “little treats”, my thing has been taking one trip a year since I was 19 (excluding Covid). Now I’m saving for an apartment like an adult and I’m like huh, this sucks.

Tomorrow I’m going kayaking with my brother. I’ve spent the last few days sorting through basically all my worldly possessions. Yesterday I bought new jeans. Every day I fight the urge to chop my hair off while I wait for my hairdresser to be available. I’ve been thinking about writing fic again.

Careening towards the end of the year not as single or taken but a secret third thing: a queer person with mental health issues, using the arbitrary milestone of a new year to try and turn things around.

Recently I experienced a minor depressive slump that made me shun social media and do other boring things like reconsider my eating habits (again) and take up irregular swimming (again). I also signed up or agreed to a whole bunch of things just to make the forthcoming days look different. Iykyk.
