Another 2025 commission, this one featuring Mimi from Digimon. Per usual, not feeling much with the commissions this year. I'll say this one was at least a step more intriguing than some of the others, as it features a character design I like. I haven't watched Digimon Adventures properly, so I don't know how in-character or out-of-character this is for Mimi. Once more, I had to write the dialogue. And as one could expect, I find Mimi a lot more attractive in her first design rather than this episode-specific attire. Dresses are trifling to draw, I've come to learn especially this year. I did my best in replicating the setting in the show and trying to shape the feet well. And I think I did a good job there. I did miss adding some more details in her shoe, and I wish I'd caught that before. But the rest of her is so relatively detailed for my style that it makes up for it. The background also threw me off, but that's because I thought the original was more white than green. Mimi's hair is surprisingly difficult for me to draw. Any hair that arcs up around the forehead—I don't know what to call it—is often a struggle.

With this chapter covering so much, and in relatively short time given the smaller length, it was hard to pick a specific scene to cover. So I went with multiple. Not much feet, but more action.

Deep in Syrup's brig, a bloodied Jasmin clings onto what little hope she can muster. Yet on the Wario ship, Penelope wages a chaotic war against 13-Amp, 9-Volt and 18-Volt. Arriving just in time to catch her in this altered state, the heroes finally board Wario's ship. Unfortunately they've also come face-to-face with a terrifying new guest. When it comes to Halloween, people assume you need to draw characters related to some kind of horror. But I see nothing wrong with just having characters dress up, like the holiday encourages. I don't recall if I've ever said what I think of Halloween. Compared to Christmas, I prefer the latter's aesthetics, though Halloween's horror gimmick looks equally as interest. I haven't celebrated it in a long time. Everyone varies on when they stop trick-or-treating, and I stopped early around sixth grade. The last costume I remember wearing was a scratchy scarecrow outfit. We'd be here forever if I talked about candy. I'll be brief: Twix is the best chocolate, candy corn is overhated, Skittles are always welcome, and if somebody gives you Twizzlers on Halloween, they personally hate you. Given it's been so long since I've participated in the holiday, it made sense to go back to something nostalgic and give it the Halloween touch. In this case, Strawberry Shortcake. Knowing I'd go a bit more detailed with the background this time, I didn't bother refining it. I stuck with a simple pencil tool and allowed lines to be sloppy. This even applies to the main character, whose lines are softer compared to my normal output. However, I think it works well, adding some visual variety. This is some of the most dialogue I've written for an original piece in a while. Though I've practised scaling back on it—however people feel about this, I don't know—this one was hard to condense. Definitely one where you might want to see the textless options in the cloud. The other thing of note is that boots aren't that good for sniffing. I knew that already, but drawing them empty really made it apparent. It's impossible to get your nose near the insole. The visuals would still work for those who love that, but yeah, you gotta hope the girl has feet as stinky as Strawberry's for the smell to waft up like through a chimney.

Penelope is on the ship of the Wario crew as black tendrils leak out of her mouth. 18-Volt, 13-Amp and 9-Volt are blown back as debris begins to burst in their direction. In the background on the trim are the Squeaks, monsters that seem to belong to this crew. This was a difficult drawing for many reasons: the perspective, the poses, 18-Volt's jacked body, the various debris and more. Originally each member was going to be dressed like a Nintendo pirate—9-Volt's idea. I gave up with the concept, but you see it retained with 9-Volt using the Team Aqua Grunt getup from Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. While 18-Volt was never given a character, 13-Amp was going to be dressed like Tetra from Zelda: The Wind Waker. It's somewhat retained with her scarf, sandals and white pants. The scene takes place during the day, but I thought a bright blue background wouldn't fit the tone. To go off on a tangent, it reminds me of a SpongeBob episode: The Clash of Triton. That one is godawful, partially because there's no tone to the visuals. It's bright and blue when Triton is destroying Bikini Bottom, killing the tension. A lot of "serious" episodes in that show had that problem, and I've seen it happen in many others. If the scene is super tense, play with the colours. Make them stand out rather than having it look like a generic day. Overcast was my choice because I decided it could lead into rainy weather later.

This was originally going to be monochrome with this rough pen style. I accidentally began colouring the deck, then I decided, "Fuck it, I'll do the whole thing."

First time we get to see 9-Volt, 18-Volt and 13-Amp drawn together in my style. At least outside of concept sketches.

Penelope's gambit to escape the Sweet Stuff ends with her being tossed to the sea. As Jasmin is dragged back to the furious Captain Syrup, a new battle erupts on the deck when Captain Jones arrives. But where is Wario's crew in all of this. La arriesgada jugada de Penélope para escapar del Aguadulce termina con ella arrojada al mar. This is actually a Halloween picture from 2023. It was intended for a Gumroad pack, but I hadn't finished it in time. Rather than sit on it, it makes sense to just release it for this month, especially if I don't get an original piece out. It being from 2023 shows, what with the black mouth and generally rougher anatomy. It's still nowhere near my worst, but I noticed things like the face having the potential to be better.

First time I've had to draw Captain Syrup. WarioWare was always going to be a factor for this arc, but I initially dismissed Wario Land, finding it hard to implement. Good thing I found a way to go about it.

I love drawing horrified expressions.

Gone again… The heroes grapple with their failure to save Penelope and Jasmin. But their grief is interrupted when ­Jones warns them about Syrup's horrifying tastes. A long distance away, Penelope and Jasmin learn this firsthand as they are introduced to the captain herself. There's no room for discussion: they must escape, with or without their protectors. Desaparecidas de nuevo… Los héroes lidian con el peso de su fracaso al poder salvar a Penélope y Yasmín. This was hard as hell for me to animate. I wanted to be fancy here and make this one look special, but I underestimated how tough it would be animating six rotating characters.
