Also, even if you think you're going to lose, surely you'd want to be remembered for delivering good things. "Yeah we lost but here's a list of good things we did!" is a better legacy than "they weren't really much better than the last lot, didn't really do anything, went racist for a bit".

Morgan McSweeney is the worst thing to happen to Labour since Jeremy Corbyn became leader. Worth remembering that Labour's vote share has halved in the last 18 months and nobody seems to be particularly bothered about why that may be.

Would quite like a Labour minister to just come out and say "she deserved to go to prison, she should've been there for longer than she was, and frankly a lot of the people defending her should probably also be in prison".

We have freedom of speech. We also know that it comes with responsibility, something Americans seem incapable of understanding. We also have universal access to healthcare and zero school shooting massacres, too.

Over the past few years, the BBC has successfully radicalised me into being a firm 'abolish the license fee' supporter. Their news and political coverage is consistently terrible. If the BBC wants to act like GB News/Fox or any other privately funded broadcaster, it can do so without public money.

Going to be fun to see how their supporters manage to balance 'Labour's approach to trans issues is far too nuanced and unsupportive' with 'I'm OK that more than half of the Corbyn party's MPs believe LGBT people are sinners and should not exist at all'.

I like Ian, but it's this sort of 'no rules liberalism' thinking that ensures the Lib Dems only get 12-15% in a General Election. The public likes having rules.

It would be a terrible shame if 'JD Vance killed the Pope' ended up gaining traction in the right-wing, God-fearing, conspiracy bubble sphere. That could do immeasurable damage to his political ambitions *evil grin*

Sadly he'd hit a wall not long after the FA Cup win. Should have gone after the Forest cup defeat.
At least 2 years ago we knew we'd have a squad good enough to go up. Not sure that's the case now. Squad is much weaker even than last season. Β£20m on Oliver Skipp FFS. So many bad decisions.

Yeah 2 years ago was bad (we would have stayed up had we sacked Rodgers sooner IMO) but this is just the pits. Not a single redeeming feature of this season. Be glad when it's all over.
And all the best - we're still a little crazy at times (thanks Brexit) but not *that* crazy.

Time for Charles and Keir to stage an intervention and bring you guys home for a while til we can work out what the hell is going over there...
As for Leicester - I think I accepted the inevitable a few weeks back, since Wolves really. Worst season I can remember, certainly since 2007-08.

A few years ago, I would have agreed. But after years of the Tories putting their own people inside, it seems to have a pretty obvious anti-Labour slant to its political reporting. No issues with questioning but their decision to take a more robust approach seemed to take effect from 5th July 2024.
13.03.2025 16:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
I had always assumed previously that BBC had a pro-government bias, rather than a pro-Tory one. But seeing how openly hostile they have been since July - nah, they are definitely just anti-Labour. Time they either got on side or have their licence fee abolished.

Yeah, I can see that. It's certainly true that anti-trans politics seems to act as a gateway to the far-right - see JFK's dissent into full blown Nazi support in recent years.

Ultimately, it probably isn't for straight white men like me to decide policy on something that, fundamentally, does not affect our day-to-day lives. I would like to think that there's a sensible middle ground where everyone who is affected can be content.
13.03.2025 13:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
That is fair. I think my starting point is that nobody should be at risk in public places or safe spaces. I can understand why both sides have massive red lines over this. I would say I am much more in the 'let trans people do as they wish' but I do think some concerns (not all) are justified.
