Delroy Lindo Is Back on the Awards Trail With ‘Sinners,’ Following a “Profoundly Disappointing” Snub for ‘Da 5 Bloods’ Delroy Lindo had decades of brilliant, acclaimed performances across film and TV under his belt by the time his first true Oscar campaign materialized. The American Conservatory Theater graduate had emerged in the ‘90s with bracing performances in a range of Spike Lee films — 1992’s Malcolm X, 1994’s Crooklyn and 1995’s Clockers — before reuniting with the Oscar-winning director for 2020’s Da 5 Bloods, a mournful portrait of Vietnam War veterans on the hunt for closure. Lindo’s searing turn as the PTSD-addled Paul won him the New York Film Critics Circle’s best actor prize and some of the best reviews of his career, and he put himself out there on the campaign trail. Ultimately, the efforts were to no avail: Lindo was not nominated by the Academy (nor his own guild for the SAG Awards), an omission widely considered that year’s big snub.

U. of Alabama Suspends Black and Female Student Magazines, Citing D.E.I. Guidance Officials told staff members at two student-run publications, called Nineteen Fifty-Six and Alice, that they were not compliant with Attorney General Pam Bondi’s memo on diversity programs.

The University of Alabama on Monday suspended two student magazines — one appealing to women, another to Black students — saying they ran afoul of guidance from the Justice Department on DEI programs.

well, this continues to be an interesting presence … a sexy noir set around the Zoot Suit Riots, wartime LA racial tension make a great backdrop for some striking work. visually rich. Rachel Merrill moonlights from Gil Thorp with a strong, funky style. she’s why I picked it up, does not disappoint.
