I guess you saw OpenAI asking the US government to back its debt. As I saw people discussing on Mastodon, you don't ask something like that unless you think there's already a noteworthy risk of default. Trump and his buds are now in a position to make shed load of money by timing a market short.

It can't be long now before the Economists start explaining why it was totally obvious that the AI bubble was going to burst.

We once had a visitor to the University, whose name was Fuchs. Our first instinct was to pronounce it so it didn't have a colourful homophone, and he told us "No! Fuchs rhymes with books!". I had to explain to him that that explanation might not work in Dublin.

me at the end of class: here's a little speculative exercises; imagine you wake up from cryosleep in 2085. what's the kind of tech-society r/ship you'd like to see around you?

students: no AI

I honestly think students' views are missing from the 'should AI be integrated in classrooms' discussion

Do I know anyone who know local history in Rathgar? Various bios of economist W. M. Gorman say that he went to "Mount Temple School, Rathgar" or "Mount Temple College", before 1941. I can't see a school of that name in Rathgar, and it is too early to be The High School or Mount Temple Comprehensive.

Is "New Testament Holy Spirit" likely to be an answer? Born without a mother or a father, after three days in the womb? Probably not Jesus or God, based on the wording. Someone who is a brother (so a companion) but whose parent is my father (god)?

As ballots are counted, misleading claims that the election was β€˜rigged’ spread online Spoiled votes and low turnout were cited to say the election should be re-run.

As ballots are being counted across Ireland today, fringe figures online are celebrating the high number of votes that were spoiled in the election.

Some point to the number of spoiled votes as evidence the election result is illegitimate.

Seemingly, at least a fraction of the vote spoilers were not particularly private about it, and were telling the polling staff as they were voting.

Slightly puzzled by the narrative that independent people can't get on the ballot - CC is an independent and had enough support before any large party rowed in behind her. If you're a conservative candidate who can't get MMD onside, that may be your problem.

This week’s violence has raised serious questions for some of the main social media platforms. Livestream content depicting violence outside Citywest was broadcast on YouTube, TikTok and Twitch, with streamers rewarded by viewer donations, as they captured protesters shouting racist expletives towards Citywest.
In one eight-minute segment of an hour-long livestream I watched on YouTube that night, the user broadcast the burning of the Garda van, referred to migrants in horrific terms and proclaimed they were there to show people β€œthe real truth”. During the video, they received the equivalent of €56 in donations from viewers around the world. The notion that violence can be monetised on social media illustrates a glaring failure of platforms to adequately enforce their own community guidelines around violence.

That people are now being paid handsomely to hate, is a huge, huge social problem. Regulation is desperately needed. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2025...

Underneath is more German text which translates as "The BΓΆcker Agilo transports your treasures weighing up to 400kg at 42m/min - quiet as a whisper."
