The 3-wave ANES panel is now available. It merges data from 3 election studies (2016-2020-2024), the first time the ANES has collected interviews of the same respondents across 3 presidential elections.

The 2024 @electionstudies.bsky.social has the share of "pure independents" in the US at its lowest level since 1952 (7%)

These web-based, dynamic applications can be accessed via the Data Tools section of the ANES website.

1. The first tool is the ANES Guide to Public Opinion and Electoral Behavior, with >200 graphs displaying the ebbs and flows of public opinion, electoral behavior, and choice in American politics.

With the release of the 2024 ANES, further evidence that Trump's invovlement in US politics had the effect of *reducing* authoritarianism in the public (in a thermostatic style--of course!--with larger changes among Democratic voters)

The newly released @electionstudies.bsky.social 2024 time series has polarization basically static, with Democratic respondents moderating on race and healthcare (consistent with the thermostatic response to a Democratic president).

We like to think that we make our own political choices.

Looking at some @electionstudies.bsky.social data, though, the relationship b/w parents' party and our own is striking.

Even allowing for some misreporting, I'm surprised how strong this has been, and over multiple generations.

Answer: We are still finalizing timelines for data releases but anticipate preliminary releases of the pre- and post-election data sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
