True in #Romancelandia as well. My faves may not be your faves, but read widely and you do you.

And here is the proof: Uma Thurman and the Case of the White Cow with Black Spots Instead of the Black Cow with White Spots. #HollywoodLife!

A Facebook memory for 5 years ago today: Just had a random flashback to the most furious on-set argument I ever witnessed, a DP screaming at the production designer: "I wanted a black cow with white spots! You brought me a white cow with black spots!" and this is so emblematic of my entire experience in Hollywood that I think it should be taught at film school.

Before #Romancelandia, I worked in the entertainment industry (and grew up inside it too). Thought I'd share this FB memory that popped up for me today.

#Romancelandia people, you don't have to use Substack for your newsletter. You just don't. Here's everything you need to know about why and how to move:

Hahahaβ€”in the MS I'm currently editing I was *just* trying to decide if a character would use an accent in a text! (I chose yes.)

I absolutely loved Zomromcom by @oliviawrites.bsky.social β€”honestly, it's the perfect antidote to [gestures to everything]. I *want* to be waving a cleaver most days! Alas, I tragically lack a hot vampire neighbor.

Buttondown is now very loudly advertising on their landing page that they will do the newsletter migration for you if you want off the Nazi site.

They did mine, and it was painless. The only pain point I've had is how Substack handled paid subscriptions–Buttondown fixed their mess.

You Should Probably Leave Substack You should probably leave Substack. Here’s why and how.

Authors, you should really move your newsletter off #Substack, because it willingly platforms and allows bad actors to monetize hate speech and misinformation. Here's everything you need to know about why and how to move:

Indie author tip of the day: reach out to editors earlier than you think you'll need to. Many (most?) reputable editors get booked up many months in advance.

My next opening is in late Oct, and that's only by chance; usually I'm booking farther out.

Shout out to Angelenos who know that this godforsaken Tesla diner is in the spot where the world's jankiest Shakey's used to be and I'd 1000% rather have mojo potatoes and so-so pizza than whatever the eff that edgelord has on his menu.

When this country is a flaming pile of shit (so, basically every day), I am grateful for #Romancelandia. The books I read, the manuscripts I edit, talking with a friend about a book I love, an author's newsletter hitting my inboxβ€”all of it. Today a friend told me she loved a book I rec'd.
