Work to build 24 new flats on a prominent site in the West End is underway. More than £8.5m has been set aside to fund the project, at Blackness Road which will provide six wheelchair accessible one-bedroom flats and 18 two-bedroom properties. 🏠

Community groups from across Dundee have come together to celebrate their success in a vote for funding for local projects.

The Neighbourhood Capital Fund allocated £600,000 across six wards ad put decision-making directly into the hands of local people.

Present were representatives from the Dundee-Würzburg Twinning Association, Dundee-Orléans Twinning Association and the Dundee-Nablus Twinning Association.

The litter pick took place today (Friday 24th October) to mark United Nations Day and focused on the Discovery Twinning Rose Garden and the wider Stobsmuir Ponds (Swannie Ponds) area.

Three Dundee Twinning Associations organised a community litter pick, inviting along staff and pupils from Clepington, Dens Road, Glebelands, Our Lady’s, and Rosebank Primary Schools, and were supported by the Council’s Neighbourhood Services.

An update on efforts that have been made by Dundee partners to improve life for people in the city will be considered by councillors on Oct 27.

The City Governance Committee will look in detail at the latest annual progress report on the City Plan for Dundee.

Cllr Siobhan Tolland, the council’s spokesperson for Fairness and Wellbeing, went along to see all that was happening and chat with staff and attendees.

As part of #ChallengePovertyWeek a ‘Family Food & Fun in Maryfield’ event was held offering food, fun activities and community support at Dundee International Women’s Centre.

Dundee City Council and partners were there to offer advice and give information of support available regarding a whole range of issues.

Cllr Siobhan Tolland, the council's spokesperson for Fairness & Wellbeing met with members of the community and the various advice services at the event.

A cosy cafe, lunch club & information pop-up event was held today as part of #ChallengePovertyWeek 2025 at the Boomerang Community Centre in Dundee. 🍲💙

Questions and discussions were had with each speaker as well as time for networking.

The Council’s spokesperson for Fairness & Wellbeing Cllr Siobhan Tolland and Equalities spokesperson Cllr Nadia El-Nakla, along with the Lord Provost, welcomed the speakers to the event.

Guests then heard from Sheila McMahon, Community Health Inequalities Manager for Dundee City Council & Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership, who presented the best practice lessons emerging from the recent evaluation of the Linlathen Local Fairness Initiative.

The first speaker was Dr David Walsh, who discussed the ground-breaking research captured in his book, Social Murder?: Austerity and Life Expectancy in the UK. David is Senior Lecturer in Health Inequalities at the University of Glasgow.

The event was organised by the Dundee Partnership and attendees were able to hear from 2 speakers talking about the different aspects of poverty and the impacts it has in Dundee and the rest of the country.

As part of #ChallengePovertyWeek 2025, the Lord Provost of Dundee, Bill Campbell, hosted the first ever ‘Dundee Challenge Poverty Week Lecture’ in the City Chambers.
