As someone who lives in the Gulf and has been sheltering in place for two days and hearing explosions and seeing the smoke, I don’t GAF about gas prices TBH

And I find that Westerners who never question the exploitative systems which take advantage of migrants in their own communities find it easy to point a finger elsewhere, without considering their own complicity.

Yep tricky for people to understand that most people who are here are here out of choice, whether because of limited options in their home countries or better options here. People have agency. And there’s no lack of exploitation but there’s also a much more nuanced reality including real mobility.

Plus all the manual labourers trying to remit enough money to support their families.

And more than just a “because you don’t have a choice” but it’s generally an attractive and usually much safer place to live.

If you're Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Thai etc and maybe you're an engineer or a doctor or an architect, that's where you often land after uni to work if there aren't many jobs at home
