Interesting. One of the people I've been playing it with had played SiE and he thought the theme in Dark Providence wasn't as good. Particularly having gates (the terminology of open/close is pretty confusing in the rules: I feel it should be open/sealed) instead of great old ones

What did you make of Dark Providence? I have a review of this in the pipe and I was pleasently surprised by it: I've never played Study in Emerald and the genre-merging in this felt pretty fresh and exciting.

I overheard an utterly confusing conversation about beers and sports. And it made me realize that's what I must sound like to normal people when I talk about games. :-D

Like, it's not hard to see how Labour walked into the AI trap. They were desperate for economic growth via increased productivity and that must've been an easy sales line early in the tech lifecycle. But now? Now it's clear how crap, how dangerous this stuff is & they're doubling down on it!

It is incredible to me how otherwise intelligent, sensible people with even vaguely progressive leanings can be so easily awestruck and browbeaten by business-world grifters who went to private school and Oxbridge into buying and supporting the most fradulent shit imaginable with public money

It all makes a lot more sense once you realise that these people don't derive conclusions from arguments but arguments from conclusions. They reason backwards from 'knowledge' to find rationalisations.

There's a personal aspect to this too. Britain is still a very class-riven society. Top jobs in journalism & politics often go to people from the same schools & universities. Even if you don't know people personally, you still have shared reference points and - critically - values.

While it's reasonable to be suspicious of information coming out of a regime like Iran, if there's one nation that's been proven, again and again, to lie and lie and lie about its actions, it's Israel.

He was such a brilliant iconoclast when he hit the UK folk scene as a teenager. Just fearless. He's much more in for the trad stuff now but his first five albums are all magnificent.
