Maybe we never had a chance. Maybe the enlightenment meant our inevitable suicide. Maybe social media and now AI is making us collectively insane. Maybe a spiritual revolution is our only salvation.
But we do know what's happening and we do know how to stop it.
Its just that we can't or we won't.
We find it too hard to think about the global and time scales involved. We find it too hard to accept the vast immorality of our own actions. We need to conform to and maintain the status and normalcy to which we've been programmed. We feel entitled to our luxuries.
It's easier not to think.

The climate policy specifics seem obvious: Overwhelming information; taxes and prohibition of all but necessary consumption and FF use; massive, war-footing investment in efficiency and renewables, etc. Its no mystery.
But who'd vote for that?
We know what to do. We just choose not to do it.

I no longer log in to Youtube and don't accept its cookies, so every time I use it I'm starting fresh. I'm amazed at how quickly the feed fills with disinformation, propaganda, and lies.
How can you save science from disinformation, propaganda, and lies without saving media and politics from it?

βThe biggest danger [facing the world] is technological determinism becoming the new imperialism of our timeβ.
Higgins also said it was time for βradical ideasβ, saying βit is not small adjustments that will tackle any of the issuesβ currently facing the world.

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.

Technocracy looks a lot like Neil Postman's Technopoly. And Avivocracy looks a lot like humility, temperance and acceptance.
God grant me the serenity

courage to learn the things I can;

When you think about it, both Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency and Buddhism are based on the principle of the interconnectedness of all things.
Maybe the real difficulty is in unlearning duality, quantification, reductionism and epistemological arrogance? But what would I know.
WOW!
Just got the presentation for the new plans for College Green and Dame Street. Looks absolutely amazing.
The Greens have been pushing for this for nearly two decades: we'll keep on going until we get it over the line.
It was the Irish Green Party getting into government that got this. God bless PR.

So there's something like a 1 in 13 chance your house will burn down before the mortgage is paid off (not that you'll get a mortgage, because you won't be able to get insurance).
A lot of people living near water are also going to learn this the hard way. Best to sell before the rush.
Read our open letter to the Taoiseach and Climate Minister, arguing that there is no legal or scientific justification for delaying Ireland's Climate Action Plan. It's urgently needed to close the carbon budget delivery gap this decade, and further delays will increase overall costs.
