It's kind of funny, I actually speculated about this- considering they could make eggs out of anything they ate, *and* hatched out of eggs, the only conclusion I could come up with was their digestive and reproductive tracts intersected somehow.

It's also worth noting that there are humanoid reploids in X- mostly ones that have positions of authority or regularly interact with humans.

Whereas with Reploids, they were an established quantity, so that reassurance was unnecessary- so they made them animalistic to both soften up their look to the public- like living mascots- as well as to clearly establish them subconsciously as an underclass.

I think honestly it had to do with the context of the series- The Master robots were created to do human jobs, and were a new technology, so they intentionally made them human-looking to reassure people that they could do what they were made for.

And both are wonderful
