(2) From a comms perspective you wonder what UEFA's social/communications team was thinking in making the post in the first place. He's not a player from the confederation, and put simply, they could just not have acknowledged his passing. Who approved it, and why?

Indeed. And if we review the history of the media, we find that such examples are sadly few.

FIFA has applied to register the trade mark "Extra time" in the US, in NICE Class 43 (bars, hotels, cafes, catering, etc). One of the 2026 World Cup hospitality services presumably.

His overall contribution deserves more recognition than to be considered a cult figure, and cult figures also shouldn't cost Β£65m plus add-ons. I hope he does well.

(11) One of those reforms could include re-instituting itself in an EU member state, rather than remaining in Switzerland. See here for an explanation why:
verfassungsblog.de/the-court-of...
Sports governance remains CAS's official remit, and especially when not related to EU public policy.
(10) Combined with Semenya (European Court of Human Rights), the case serves as a reminder of CAS's institutional weaknesses (including the Swiss Federal Tribunal) and needed reform.
(7) I'm not aware of other industries in which a particular international arbitrator is unilaterally imposed, but presumably the same applies as a consequence if so?
(8) The risks for sports governing bodies are now greater - e.g. potentially more decisions blocked, more damages paid.
(5) A national court can also impose interim measures (e.g. this could include blocking enforcement of any CAS decision while subject to national court review).
(6) It recognises forced arbitration (sports governing bodies imposing CAS on athletes) has utility, but judicial review must be allowed.
(3) Important - national courts can't decline to review the CAS decision where EU public policy is concerned, and that review itself must be substantive.
(4) If a national court judges that CAS decided wrongly in this area, CAS's decision must be annulled, enforcement blocked, damages awarded.
Quick thread on yesterday's Seraing CJEU decision. Any critique welcome especially from lawyers.
(1) When asked, national courts must scrutinise CAS decisions on the basis of EU public policy.
(2) EU public policy isn't solely defined as competition law, but it also includes free movement.
I'm reading this as "Piss poor" in a Yorkshire accent. Fabulous.
02.08.2025 05:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Court of Justice continues to decide that CAS is an arbitration body that shouldn't be making decisions which aren't sporting in nature.

Logistics for filming would also have been an issue. You see a low 360 degree pan, and then images of the Main Stand (no logos/print), Centenary (Standard Chartered) and Kop (LFC). You don't see the Anfield Road, because at the time this video was created there would have been a Nike swoosh in situ.
