Well I finally caved and joined Threads and I hate it 😅 Maybe it'll get better but I really forgot what it's like to have an algorithm manipulated by content creators instead of just seeing a bunch of normal people. I assume I need to track the real people down and follow them, then maybe..?

It gives me such an ick. I think the effect is especially bad in situations where trust is very important (e.g. in science) or when you're marketing food (where 'real' food is more appealing than weird shiny AI food).

I wish more people and companies understood what a turnoff AI is for a lot of people. A new deli opened in my town and I wish them all the best, but everything they post on social media is AI. AI logo with deformed little "croissants." AI-edited menu with nonsense words under the headings.

I cancelled a membership thing recently. I got a response saying they would cancel it after I gave them my valuable feedback.

I replied “the hell you will” hyperlinked to my state’s attorney general website.

NEH's budget is tiny—not just compared to NSF/NIH, but compared to humanities funding in every other wealthy nation. I’m honestly really sad for all the close-to-retirement people whose lives will be extremely screwed up by the coming correction/crash. They didn’t really have much choice about this and were doing the best/only thing they could to save for retirement.
