Probably wouldn't be yelling on BlueSky about this if I wasn't deep in it in a million different ways myself πŸ˜…

Actually listening to a diverse team, creating that psychologically safe environment, and incorporating their influence into your decision making IS the hard work. The rest is just... stuff. All else flows from that point. And not enough organizations are doing it well.

03.03.2026 15:39 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Importantly, the diversity alone isn't enough. People on your team also need psychological safety so they *can* raise their concerns. You can't put together a Benetton team but then disregard all of their viewpoints - you might as well not have them, then. They are tokens.

It's meant to add friction to the otherwise easy slide into bad ideas. Diversity of background, experience, social identity and impact of those exact decisions is what allows teams to pump the brakes, consider all the options, and proceed with caution.

To expand on this bc I'm in a mood, today I was thinking about how diverse and inclusive teams have a ton of documented benefits but that doesn't mean they're easy. It's HARD to coordinate diverse groups - but that's the point. It's meant to be hard. It's meant to complicate decision-making.

Second of my "strongly encouraged" days off work πŸ˜… On the first day, I built new tables for the Bextraordinarium (pottery edition; fiber arts edition is currently packed up for the home remodel 😭), so on the second day, I tried them out.

as always "how would the court rule on this case to maximally advance Republican interests" is a better barometer for SCOTUS' actions than "how should the law be reasonably applied based on past precedent"

Calling AI "slop" has been one of the most effective instances of the public rebranding a product and it pisses them off.

for those of you who werent adults during iraq, its hard to overstate how much the media loves war porn. they salivate over pentagon spin briefings. they love stories about all the bombs and how supposedly infallible they are. they love the notion of the commander in chief, in the situation room etc

Honestly did not realize "USian" is at all controversial or derogatory. I use it for the same reason, after picking it up from people pointing out the centering/presumed default of USA as the only acknowledged America. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

The substance of the most serious underlying problem here is spoken to in this piece. Einstein etc poison the well for education access online, and if not seen and treated as fraud will affect the credibility of academic degrees for *normal students* not well off enough to be a Brown dropout.

Social media created this nonsense idea that not exposing yourself to hatred is isolationist. Choosing to not spend your free time with bigots isn’t living in a bubble. I don’t need to know what’s going on at X. I won’t be smarter or more knowledgeable or empathic by being there. Neither will you.
