Six years ago a client came to me. His landlord was trying to evict him over the last payment of a rent to own contract. The client had remodeled the entire house himself with his own hands, a room at a time.

Today, client won the house.

Some days are good days.

Our local utility (AES Indiana) was scheduled to have a community open house this evening, but they are rescheduling it “due to threats.”

I’m in line at the polls to vote, and they just announced there is a democrat side and republican side for the primary. The said republicans can come to the front of the line because they have no wait, and not a single person moved forward. Over 120 democrats in the democrat line (that I could count) 💙✊🏼🌊

Is this just what it will always be like? Is this being an adult? Just.. recessions and crises and pandemics and wars? Making progress and then watching the most contemptible losers smash it with a hammer because they have everything but it's not enough?

I haven't even been online that much today (had a day off, so it was pottery, gym, & Outer Wilds time) and am still experiencing this surging panic and anxiety about everything. This shit has gotta be taking years off our lives.

Actually listening to a diverse team, creating that psychologically safe environment, and incorporating their influence into your decision making IS the hard work. The rest is just... stuff. All else flows from that point. And not enough organizations are doing it well.

Importantly, the diversity alone isn't enough. People on your team also need psychological safety so they *can* raise their concerns. You can't put together a Benetton team but then disregard all of their viewpoints - you might as well not have them, then. They are tokens.

It's meant to add friction to the otherwise easy slide into bad ideas. Diversity of background, experience, social identity and impact of those exact decisions is what allows teams to pump the brakes, consider all the options, and proceed with caution.

To expand on this bc I'm in a mood, today I was thinking about how diverse and inclusive teams have a ton of documented benefits but that doesn't mean they're easy. It's HARD to coordinate diverse groups - but that's the point. It's meant to be hard. It's meant to complicate decision-making.
