Trump: People were taken out of the spa, hired by Epsteinโ€ฆ I told him we donโ€™t want you taking our people, whether itโ€™s spa or not spa. He did it again, I said out of here.

Reporter: Was one of the stolen people Virginia Giuffre?

Trump: I think so. He stole her.

Semaforโ€™s Eleanor Mueller: New: Tlaib just offered an amendment at House Financial Services Committee's markup that would force the Treasury Department to release a report on Epstein's financial transactions.

With floor action ground to a halt by Speaker Johnson over Dem amendments on the Epstein files, House Democrats are now using them to jam up committees.

Includes Appropriations, Energy & Commerce, Financial Services, and Education & Workforce, which just shut down as Rs try to figure what to do:

as "rape of a virgin territory." Then he starts to single out his colleagues. He describes David Atchison as a Roman traitor. He compares President Franklin Pierce to a Roman dictator. He basically calls Stephen Douglas Lucifer incarnate.
And then he targets Senator Andrew Pickens Butler of South Carolina.
Butler is a slaveholder. Butler also has a speech impediment because he was recovering from a stroke. Sumner makes fun of his speech impediment, makes fun of Butler's hair, makes fun of Butler's home state by saying the state of South Carolina could be blotted out of existence and civilization would look the same. And then he targets Butler by saying that Butler had a mistress, pure in his sight but ugly in the sight of the world: "the harlot, Slavery."

What Sumner is doing is he's pointing out the reality that Southern slaveholders were often engaging in rape. I found evidence that's not been reported in any previous Sumner biography that one of Butler's former slaves was interviewed in the 1930s, many decades later, and that enslaved person, now free, recalled that Butler did, in fact, have a - quote, unquote - mistress and sired two children by her.
So Sumner is telling the world about Butler's activities as he's pointing out this antidemocratic, treasonous activity in Kansas. The Senate is appalled by this speech. One senator said that Butler should come back and basically beat the crap out of Sumner. A congressman said that Sumner should be hanged.

WOW. Thank you @ztameez.bsky.social and @jamellebouie.net for introducing me to one of historyโ€™s most righteous haters, Charles Sumner.

Friendly reminder that the people behind the Jesus commercials fund super PACS that literally lobby for everything thatโ€™s the antithesis of whatโ€™s shown in that spot. Eg: pro deportation, anti vaxxer, pro higher healthcare costs, etc etc etc #plannerbowl

I loved the humor, performance, and simple idea that it's genius to use NerdWallet.

It's super smart to associate NerdWallet with intelligence

(Disclaimer: I'm also contracting with NerdWallet rn)

That's a great point. Maybe the business problem is that people think that Lay's are manufactured in mass factories, far removed from farmers and the earth.

I agree with you that it probably won't sell, but perhaps they're facing a reputational issue

10.02.2025 02:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I enjoyed that aspect, for sure. A breath of fresh air in an environment where brands stuff celebrities and surreal wherever they can

What do you think the business objective was? I don't see how this helps Lay's

As someone who recently interviewed at Doordash (with an assignment focused on dashpass, no less), it bums me out that they missed the mark.

You can communicate access/exclusivity without a dude in a silk smoking jacket

More likely that Salesforce didn't pay for exclusivity, since their relationship with Matthew pre-dates Uber's.

I agree it was distracting though, blunts the impact

Doordash won the Super Bowl last year with "doordash all the ads", but this year's ad wasn't it.

Why should I order doordash? What is the benefit of dashpass?

Their commercial with Nate Bargatze left me feeling like dashpass is a frivolous expense for people who are bad with money
