i think i have held off from gross weird slimy art making for most of my life because i've been so concerned about being ATTRACTIVE and LIKABLE and SWEET but there is this whole world that i want to make and live in and roll around in that are absolutely none of those things

i was talking about Titane with a friend this weekend and it made me realize that i want to make gross weird slimy art more than almost anything else

5. A man at a coffee shop trying to guess where the barista was from based on her accent. She seemed closed off but polite. A few minutes later her friend came up and offered her a cup of mate he had just brewed and she had the biggest smile on her face.

4. a man on a bike near Waterlooplein pulled to the side and motioned for a group of guys to come over. they started speaking to him in Dutch. he said "Oh I don't speak Dutch, only English". One of the guys started laughing and said "Oh, you look so Dutch!" (he did)

3. woman entering the visa line who loudly insisted to an officer that she had an ID card. her voice grew louder and louder. I saw her face and thought she was beautiful. when she got in the line, she snapped around and yelled at the woman behind her to back up and give her space. her face was ugly.

2. a well-dressed older couple. i first noticed the woman in the queue for the bathroom, she was wearing this beautiful long navy coat and had one of those asymmetrical bobs that framed her face perfectly. i imagined she was traveling to give an art lecture and her husband came along with her.

travel people watching is my favorite kind of people watching:

1. two young girls sitting next to me on the plane. it sounded like they had just been visiting the family of one of the girls. they were chatting quietly and giggling every few minutes

gonna read the James Joyce ones next. i need to read about the farts.
