Democrats should announce that any deal to reopen the government must include restoring every employee Trump fired and every program he defunded during the shutdown.

The Democrats should announce that any deal to reopen the government must first involve reinstating any employees or funds cut during the shutdown.

Tomorrow, the Senate will vote on the Democrat proposal. How many Republicans will vote to keep the government open then?

On the one hand, this is obviously true. On the other hand, where can we go from here?

Trump is doing a better job convincing the public this is the GOP's doing than Schumer ever could. Best to get out of his way.

If we do this right, they will remember this shutdown in history

Early polls show Trump and GOP taking more blame than Democrats for shutdown The national surveys taken in the final days of September and the first day of the shutdown find that voters are more inclined to blame Trump and his party. But many are uncertain.

Am I alone in sensing a new fighting spirit emerging from the Democrats? Is it too much to believe that this time, the opposition has finally had enough? Will they take a stand and hold their ground? I am hopeful #shutdown

Trump is publicly mocking the Democrats and their voters. Are the Democrats expected to negotiate under those conditions? The Democrats shouldn't move an inch until Trump shows that he can act like an adult.

The filibuster. Thats why

It is very frustrating that the key question everyone seems to be asking as the shutdown deadline approaches is, "Who will the public blame?"

It creates all the wrong incentives.

Maybe, just for once, the Democrats could ask, "What is the right thing to do?"

"The โ€œBoard of Peace,โ€ which will be headed and chaired by President Donald J. Trump" ...

This is not a serious proposal.

29.09.2025 18:29 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 15    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The Democrats need to learn that every poll question is the same "What side are you on?"

They dont need this strategy of blaming Trump for the shutdown. They just need to convince people to remain on their side, even as the shutdown causes damage in people's lives.

At some point, ICE won't be able to operate any longer if their salaries are not being paid out. I dont know when that point would come, but it is measured in months. If we had leaders, they would have the courage to see that.

29.09.2025 18:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So my question is, how long can they realistically "stick around"? ... because it seems to me that the answer to that question is the same as the question "How long does the shutdown need to last?"

29.09.2025 18:10 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Who cares who "owns" the shutdown? Just keep it shut down.

Its not a question of what motivates them to work. They have bills and families.

29.09.2025 17:58 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Real question. Realistically, how long do people guess ICE can continue to operate if the salaries of the agents aren't being paid out? 2 months? 3 months? Longer?

29.09.2025 17:36 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

They have families and bills, just like everyone else.

The Republicans are crazy and the Democrats are scared. Crazy beats scared every time

Congressional Democrats have some opportunity to act, but the Governors are in the best position to fight. We should direct the pressure towards the Governors.

Clearly congressional Democrats have some opportunity to take action, but the governors are really the ones in the best position to fight. The pressure should be focused on the governors to act.

18.04.2025 11:29 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The governors are in the best position to fight.

16.04.2025 23:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

At this point the Governors are in the best position to fight back. The pressure should be directed towards the Governors.
