Saddened to hear of the death of actress Prunella Scales. Most famous for playing Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. In 1981 she was teasing her neighbours by eating Birds Eye Plaice in Sauce. RIP Prunella

The very idea of a sitcom set in a grim Victorian prison seemed to some (like Kenneth Williams) to be a misstep. Who on earth would want to spend time in that environment? Ultimately, Ronnie Barker's performance helped make Porridge a triumph that I will happily keep returning to. 2/2

Ronnie Barker, who passed away 20 years ago today, was a true master of all aspects of TV comedy. My one-time tutor, the late great Ian Davidson, once told me jokingly that 'Ronnie B thought he could do everything better than everyone else... and he was usually right'. 1/2
