With you on stupid homes. No smart speakers in our house. The washing machine is too old to have an app or remote access, but it’s German and works brilliantly. Toaster is a 20 year old Dualit, ditto. Long may that continue.

Trump whining on about how UK wouldn’t let US use UK bases to attack Iran reminds me of that one child at kids parties who complains every time they don’t win a game, moans about relative size of cake potions and badgers the other kids to β€œshare” their prizes. Just keep saying No and he’ll give up

Performative regulation that isn’t actually meant to effect any meaningful change. If there isn’t a clear obligation to act in the public interest it’s hard to see how any β€œindependent” regulator could do its job

Trump is a needy little jerk who has to have total validation of and agreement with whatever he decides to do, then throws the support up in the air whenever it suits him. Unreliable, inconsistent and ungrateful. Starmer should, for once, stick to his principles and keep the UK out of Trump’s mess

There’s a world of difference between supporting R&D or investment in an SME that may grow into an important economic contributor and subsidising an established international company so it can maintain its dividend stream. Why aren’t there strings on corporate handouts like there are for benefits?

Joking apart, let’s hope the situation does give her pause for thought and maybe a bit of humility. She’s a lot closer to the danger zone currently than if she’d stayed here….

Question is the source of the potential backlash that circumscribes its action: widespread voter concern (eg Iraq war, which was ignored), fulfilling a promise (Belgium 1914), not wanting to upset an unpredictable bully, placating key lobbyists and party funders, or principled caution?

So, reverse engineering a β€œstolen election” claim on the basis of questionable evidence and lousy maths. Sounds Right

BBC's Chris Mason is repeating the racists' phrase "what is known as family voting"
NO.
It is not "known as" anything, it is a phrase invented yesterday to say "foreigners, but we can't say that"

Certainly true under Nick Clegg in 2010. Not so sure now but it’s a fair challenge

Lots of people still do because that’s what they’ve always done Drip, drip of poisonous articles, snide or inflammatory headlines make them more and more scared of other people and less and less tolerant Dangerous to dismiss the damage they do, especially when there’s no balanced trusted alternative

Meanwhile a huge section of the electorate, and a goodly number of decent former MPs are in a political wilderness. Lib Dems or Greens are the only options for anyone not a raving conspiracy theorist

Could argue both Labour and Conservatives are authoritarian and corporatist. No principles, no imagination, they just maintain the corporatist, Think Tank and lobbyist-led status quo. Labour started further Left so has discarded more but the effect is the same. No home for moderates or progressives

Viscount Rothermere has stolen millions. He spent most of his life pretending to be French so that he could cheat the UK of millions in tax.

A contributing factor to some believing Farage is the answer has been his continual platforming by the BBC which has given him an easy ride both politically and personally. For some that may have validated him as a viable alternative. It’s self-fulfilling. Fortunately G&D voters have seen through it

For various reasons don’t watch much tv or listen to radio. Is the Beeb’s narrative today remotely focused on why the Greens won or is it all about how Reform nearly won/was robbed/is still the main threat? How many contortions are being applied to justify focus on the sore losers, anyone? Bueller?

Someone needs to explain to Matt Goodwin and his party that β€œBritish Values” include being gracious in defeat

Hopefully Labour now realise that 75% of people don’t want Reform and that the people who vote Reform will not vote for Labour. It’s so fucking obvious. I don’t know why they’ve been doing what they’ve been doing. Congrats to the people of Galton and Simpson making the right choice.

Will Goodwin and his supporters actually be challenged, to the ends of the earth, on their euphemisms + in some cases foghorn certainties about ethnicity and background of those doing the β€œfamily voting”? Democracy Volunteers previously has said it is not the preserve of any one ethnic group
