Over Christmas, I developed a tool called Graphium. It’s a digital tabletop battlemap for TTRPG games: no accounts, no cloud, no subscriptions.

Fair warning: this project is raw. There are bugs, but I’ve established a good rhythm in tracking them down as I start working on the UI.

Here’s a neat new feature in our big redesign — focus mode. It filters the layer list to show only the layers you’ve selected, their container(s) and any siblings. If you’ve got a busy canvas, this is going to stop you scrolling for miles in the Layer List.

I feel like I missed an important update, but is anyone else seeing Figma intelligently auto completing labels and such in your components?

I know the hard copy version would cost money to print and ship, so I understand why it would be rare.

It’s just a lot harder to ignore a thousand letters than it is to ignore phone or email.

I’ve been thinking about this since 2016: how challenging would it be to establish a print-on-demand pipeline that, upon entering your real name and address with a short message, sends a postcard to your chosen representative?

There has to be a catch right?

They both nail the “picking up a random item in the back of a Walmart parking lot wondering why you agreed to show up” vibes

Battling Perfectionism This was first published on my mailing list The Looking Glass. Every week, I answer a reader’s question.

I have been thinking about this recently and wanted to share;

"The thing is, perfectionism tends to be rooted in fear rather than opportunity." (Julie Zhuo, Battling Perfectionism)

Dataviz accessibility principles, demonstrated by the 2024 presidential election dashboards. by Sarah L. Fossheim I tested how well different election dashboards implemented common dataviz accessibility princples, and explained where things went wrong (including lots of demos).

WOAH! @fossheim.bsky.social has just published the single-best piece I've *ever* seen on how to apply principles of accessibility to data visualization. My jaw is on the floor.

Seriously, if you only ever read a single thing for accessible visualization, let it be this:

Marketing for most AI products currently feels like an exquisitely, canned manifestation of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
