The struggle for universal civil rights is not a pick’n’mix. It’s a binary. You either fight for all people’s liberation, or you’re a selfish prick protecting your own to the detriment of everyone else. And I do not take moral lectures from selfish pricks.

If you’ll accept the mass slaughter of Arab kids for abortion rights, why would anyone principled ever believe you wouldn’t give up trans rights in a heartbeat too if you felt it was politically advantageous? If you’ll sell them out for trans rights, why would I trust you on black emancipation?

The moment you suggest genocide is an acceptable trade for women’s rights, trans rights, indigenous rights, whatever, I stop giving a shit entirely about your version of those rights, because you’d gladly sell those down the river too. You’re basically radfems, pulling up the ladder behind you.

I don’t care if the other guy would’ve genocide too. Or genocided worse. The voters he appeals to don’t give a shit about neither genocide nor domestic civil rights. If you want to be the party that pretends to care about humans and the marginalized, you must apply that in a principled manner.

The correct response is “yes, genocide is bad, and we obviously need to field a candidate who shares that sentiment and also stands up for civil rights domestically.” Nothing else will persuade anyone. Ever. If you’ll sacrifice one group on the altar, you’ll sacrifice another when it’s convenient.

As much as I sympathize with the message I think you’re trying to convey, when you’re criticized for facilitating a genocide, you do not get to lecture the rest of us that we must throw an oppressed people under the bus in the name of domestic trans rights. It doesn’t work that way. It’s deceitful.

40 years of shifting administrations, and they’ve barely seen tangible wage growth, most of which disappears into services the government once provided or subsidized, while their town falls apart, and your message to them is “could’ve been worse.”
