I don't think Simeon Brown quite realises that it's the job of the Director General of Health to prioritise, ummm, health. And as Minister of Health, he should too.

Whilst a lot of what Bill Gates wrote in his memo makes a certain amount of sense, his main point that short term emissions reduction is not the priority is based on flawed and out of date data.
Iโve scribbled on his graph below to add a very important line - reality.

A guy wrote out Tennyson's 'The Eagle' for me
He clasps the crag with crooked hands
Close to the sun in lonely lands
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls
He watches from his mountain walls
And like a thunderbolt he falls
And the cables are too short.

27.10.2025 09:25 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Her reforms, either having passed or before the House at present, include the following: Repealing Fair Pay Agreements that would have set minimum employment standards across low-paid industries; Setting new definitions of a contractor; Removing a requirement that a new employeeโs terms and conditions reflect the terms of the collective agreement for the first 30 days; Preventing employees from lodging a personal grievance if they earn more than $180,000; Removing eligibility for reinstatement or compensation if an employee contributed to the situation that led to the personal grievance; Allowing all businesses, rather than just small ones, to have 90-day trial periods for new employees; Reinstating the ability for employers to deduct wages from workers on partial strike, which they could not previously do without suspending the worker or issuing a lock-out notice. One of her recent announcements included a proposed resolution of the Holidays Act fiasco in which employer groups, including the work regulator the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, have been miscalculating holiday pay. It seems to have been met with less resistance than many of her other reforms. But perhaps the biggest piece of contentious policy reform is yet to come. That involves foreshadowed changes to the Health and Safety Act 2015, which was passed with bipartisan support after the Pike River disaster. The CTU has been scathing about what it has seen so far, although a bill has yet to be introduced, and says plans for change are based on ideology, not evidence. Van Veldenโs plan for reform of health and safety law and regulation was inked into the Act-National coalition agreement, so she was committed to change, no matter what.
Kind of the Herald to include a list of what she's fucked up (which is why we don't like her) & tell us what's next

But it is obvious. They were taken away by the state. Dad kept us
We knew.
2/3 (not that we didn't experience some of these in our dysfunctional homes).
We visited them, found the stories were true, and worse than we'd imagined.
Meanwhile if the social workers visited us, dad told us 'make yourself scarce' while he convinced them he was coping.
1/3 We knew in the 70s. Us and the neighbouring kids - 11 kids all up. The families broke up. One parent from each gone, kids running wild. Police were called. We'd heard the warnings of going to state care - that they do things, bad things
