A "sun pillar" extends upward from behind the tops of houses, into alto/cirrocumulus.

Viewer Becky got this shot of a "sun pillar" late Thursday. Flat hexagonal ice crystals (mainly oriented horizontally) help create this phenomenon.

Hurricane Melissa (Oct 2025) has been upgraded to 190 mph peak sustained wind, tying with Allen in 1980 as the strongest Atlantic storm on record.

The National Hurricane Center has now concluded Hurricane Melissa tied for the strongest Atlantic storm on record. While not directly measured, a retroanalysis of "satellite estimates, flight-level wind and dropsonde data" led them to upgrade her peak sustained wind to 190 mph.

Late Thursday night gusts (Feb 24): 46 mph Findlay, 43 mph Toledo Exec, 39 mph Toledo Express/Lima, 35 mph Ottawa/Defiance, 32 mph Port Clinton/Adrian, 31 mph Wauseon/Monroe/Hillsdale.

Last night's clipper came with some sizable wind gusts in spots, with Findlay topping out at 46 mph. 💨

#Blizzard conditions are starting to let up over parts of the Eastern Seaboard this evening, though continue in others. Plenty of cities like Providence, RI broke all-time snowfall records for a single event with 3 feet or more, surpassing the Blizzard of '78.

Sometimes you get a ridiculous yet practical birthday gift you just can't help but love. 👔↪️

Side note: Providence, RI beat their all-time snowfall event record with this current storm (32.8" and rising as of 1pm)... '78 was the bar to clear. Imagine there will be others along the coast doing the same.

Had to do a minor double-take... that's a DIFFERENT Blizzard of '78 on the left than the one we know here in the Midwest. Ours was late Jan, the Northeast one was early Feb.

Mon noon: 25-30 mph NW gusts in NW Ohio/SE Michigan.

The northwest breeze may not be too strong, but those temps in the upper-20s are helping those gusts bring an extra bite with windchills in the teens all day. I'll have the latest on @13abc.com Action News at Noon.
