My school district had plywood box/rooms in the special needs school that they would lock kids in for hours at a time for things like speaking out of turn, or being emotionally dysregulated. Know who got in trouble for it? The teacher who reported it. No one else.

I'm very curious to know which curriculum it was, so I can avoid.

I was never taught about Japanese internment camps in school.

If you say "I was homeschooled but my parents didn't teach me anything" then you weren't homeschooled, you were neglected. Let's not confuse those.

It's pretty confusing for homeschoolers to be criticized for hiding their kids away and then also be told that libraries shouldn't be providing community programming to homeschoolers. It feels like people will hate homeschoolers no matter what they do based on a stereotype.

Ooooh, yeah. Places are packed during the summer. June is our month off from school work, but it's hard to take fun outings to certain places over the summer for sure.

Okay, but getting distracted and not being able to focus are not "misbehaving" to someone with ADHD. Just like not being able to walk or do jumping jacks is not misbehavior for someone with a broken leg. It'slike saying, "they'd be better off with a personal trainer who can make them walk."

I can say as a secular progressive MO homeschooler, even the conservative Christian homeschoolers don't want this because it'll come with strings attached and they're afraid they'll have to become accountable. Us responsible ones don't want to take funding from public schools. Very few want this.

While many are fired up to start fighting now, there are many of us already exhausted from fighting for the past 5+ years.

My exact experience! And my doctor's response to not being able to lose weight was, "walk faster." 🤦‍♀️

A female doctor has been one of the worst doctors to me. It's betrayal on a whole new level.

I avoid doctors because I am a woman and have a history of doctors not listening to me until the damage has been done.

To be completely honest, though, this has been happening in every school since 2020 and especially since 2022 when Biden declared "freedom from the pandemic" and everyone ditched their masks. A preventable, deadly disease has been circulating unmitigated for years.

Having to watch my dad die of lung cancer from afar because family wasn't willing to vaccinate or mask while they visited him and vaccines weren't available for my daughter yet.

I don't know if I can take this kind of heartbreak for the next four years and beyond. 💔

What parts of it are you against? Everything is saw in it seemed reasonable.

Who gets to determine what a "legitimate reason" to homeschool is?

We don't do co-op, but I taught civics this year, and it has been a DOOZY.

As a homeschooling mom, myself, I support this. It's exactly the thing I'd like to see happen in Missouri too, and across the board.

It's not because they're uneducated. You can choose to ignore the benefits of homeschooling or you can educate yourself on them. Regardless, in this moment, some people are going to need choose homeschooling for their kids' education and I'm trying to make it a welcoming option for those in need.

We go through curriculum. We read the books. We hire out teachers or tutors for things we need. We provide opportunities for learning. Studies are showing that more homeschoolers take college level courses in high school than college. Colleges WANT homeschoolers.
