Just listening to Yanis Varoufakis and Slavoj Zizek discuss politics--I've only dabbled before, but this is very insightful.

These come to mind. I live in Australia and while it’s always a work in progress I think we do okay on some of those dimensions.

I’ve learned a lot via listening to in -depth discussions on the various Lawfare podcasts and highly recommend them.

What other elements do people think matter?

What separates functional democracies from authoritarian states? Recent happenings have made me think of a few: Rule of law, with a focus on an independent judiciary, election integrity and voting access to citizens, means to combat corruption, check and balances in power via separate houses. . .
