Yeah, I know there are still way fewer users here but if anyone thinks all the Nazis are there and Bluesky is some Edenic bastion of Philosemitism and anti-racism, they need to do the math.

It's a smaller base for sure but lots of people who were (correctly) upset about the Nazi flag at the convoy, for example, have had little or nothing to say about attacks on synagogues closer to home.

I struggle to wrap my head around the apparent contradiction.

If I search "synagogue, Toronto" all I see are two bots retweeting wire stories.

If you hate Nazis so much you created an alternate platform but then you have nothing to say on it when actual synagogues are shot in your town, I'm forced to wonder what you think actually makes Nazis bad.

And yeah, it's true that people who emphatically declare antisemitism and antizionism are different should be leaping to stand against these attacks and yet are apathetic/silent.

When the only stuff that had just happened in Canada were these 3 incidents.

A more innocent time when none of the attacked buildings were in my neighbourhood, or buildings I'd repeatedly been inside of and/or at which I've celebrated my daughter's Bat Mitzvah.

You'd think synagogue shootings would be big news on the "No Nazis!" platform whereas it turns out local film critics resigning from their association is actually the bigger news.

Oh, well.

I'm well aware that that other platform is apparently where the Nazis are but at least there, there's still people talking about this, amid the hate.

Here, it's basically silence, which makes me wonder how much of what Nazis are/were is actually understood.

One is a short walk from my house.

This has become normalized because of apathy and failing to properly respond. Despite Toronto's alleged commitment to diversity, it has failed its Jewish community.

...because, to your point, he wants to gain readers not necessarily because he's in the same league as Richler but because he thinks people want/need to read a book from a Jew saying Israel is bad, so he might pick up those readers.

But he seems to think people should read his books instead of, say Richler's and Cohen's, BECAUSE his political view is superior or more evolved.

Calling your article "heated" seems like a bit of projection there but his publisher will at least be happy he managed to leverage some PR for his new book.

That he called her response "heated" (you know how overly emotional women can be, right?) and spent the part I tuned out of promoting his own novel all speaks for itself. But no such thing as bad publicity, I guess.

I have seen Avi Lewis, David Mivasair and virtually everyone else in the camp repeat the "growing movement" thing as a shibboleth or some kind of attempt to will it into reality.
Speaks to insecurity of their "resistance" movement IMHO but chacun son gout.

I think everyone agrees musicians need to compensated but some shows really get gutted when they come to streaming with a lot of "this has the same vibe" generic music replacing great stuff.
When you remember the original it can really take you out of the show, though it's otherwise great to have.
