The fact that people are blocking him because he defends Israel is arguably not disproving my point but there are also very few who posted mainstream news stories because they live in Toronto, oppose racism and want to share that it's bad to shoot at shuls.
The entire issue gets no traction here.

Sorry, hon. You're not my first antisemitic, left wing groyper.
You're actually far more dangerous than an ancient reactionary like Don Cherry because you imagine your gross, violent, ancient hate is some kind of progressive, moral stance. And it takes you 2 posts to collect your "thoughts."
Bye.

I certainly didn't say that to you but you still exclude me from your fake intersectionality. If you imagine this statement substantiates your anti racist or not-antisemitic credentials, yeah, it definitely doesn't.
But thank you for providing a textbook example of Blue Sky-friendly Judenhaas.

Heck of a whatabout, connecting Don Cherry to synagogues being shot.
Jews aren't a "certain community" here to be weaponized against your personal nemeses.
Actual hypocrisy is Toronto's anti-racist mayor not showing up and doing nothing to protect Jews.
Take a stand against antisemitism or don't.

These empaths seem blissfully unaware that blaming Jews for causing antisemitism is itself an antisemitic trope.
That must seem an unfair rhetorical trap from their POV but if they're going to strenuously assert Zionism and Judaism are discrete, the hypocrisy of this argument becomes glaring.

Yup. And this sort of "explanation" for why Canadian Jews deserve to suffer is a quintessentially Blue Sky sort of passive aggressive antisemitism.
This is how hate is enabled, no matter how much it's wrapped in some naive concept of social justice and moral superiority .

Yeah, I know there are still way fewer users here but if anyone thinks all the Nazis are there and Bluesky is some Edenic bastion of Philosemitism and anti-racism, they need to do the math.

It's a smaller base for sure but lots of people who were (correctly) upset about the Nazi flag at the convoy, for example, have had little or nothing to say about attacks on synagogues closer to home.
I struggle to wrap my head around the apparent contradiction.

If I search "synagogue, Toronto" all I see are two bots retweeting wire stories.
If you hate Nazis so much you created an alternate platform but then you have nothing to say on it when actual synagogues are shot in your town, I'm forced to wonder what you think actually makes Nazis bad.

Horseshoe Theory explains some of it.
And yeah, it's true that people who emphatically declare antisemitism and antizionism are different should be leaping to stand against these attacks and yet are apathetic/silent.
That they actually are conflating the two things is a logical explanation.

Ah yes, yesterday.
When the only stuff that had just happened in Canada were these 3 incidents.
A more innocent time when none of the attacked buildings were in my neighbourhood, or buildings I'd repeatedly been inside of and/or at which I've celebrated my daughter's Bat Mitzvah.

You'd think synagogue shootings would be big news on the "No Nazis!" platform whereas it turns out local film critics resigning from their association is actually the bigger news.
Oh, well.

I'm well aware that that other platform is apparently where the Nazis are but at least there, there's still people talking about this, amid the hate.
Here, it's basically silence, which makes me wonder how much of what Nazis are/were is actually understood.
Attacking synagogues, for example...?

These are 2 of the biggest synagogues in the GTA.
One is a short walk from my house.
This has become normalized because of apathy and failing to properly respond. Despite Toronto's alleged commitment to diversity, it has failed its Jewish community.
I'm sick to my stomach over what it's come to.

I wouldn't have heard of his obscure "manifesto" if Phoebe hadn't written about it so I can only assume he's clever enough to keep milking the CJN, and enjoy the extra irony to of using the tools of the Zionists against them.

...because, to your point, he wants to gain readers not necessarily because he's in the same league as Richler but because he thinks people want/need to read a book from a Jew saying Israel is bad, so he might pick up those readers.
Fans of literature? TBD.

That's kind of the issue, writ large,IMHO.
Maybe his books are good and maybe they're not. I can't claim to know.
But he seems to think people should read his books instead of, say Richler's and Cohen's, BECAUSE his political view is superior or more evolved.
To that I say... Yeah, no.

I was tempted to read Rubble Children, which is set in my neighbourhood, despite disagreeing strongly with his politics.
But the tone of this discourse is certainly making it harder for me to suck it up and give it a try, even though (despite his self pity/promotion) my library does stock it.

Calling your article "heated" seems like a bit of projection there but his publisher will at least be happy he managed to leverage some PR for his new book.

That he called her response "heated" (you know how overly emotional women can be, right?) and spent the part I tuned out of promoting his own novel all speaks for itself. But no such thing as bad publicity, I guess.

I have seen Avi Lewis, David Mivasair and virtually everyone else in the camp repeat the "growing movement" thing as a shibboleth or some kind of attempt to will it into reality.
Speaks to insecurity of their "resistance" movement IMHO but chacun son gout.

His letter repeats so many rote tropes (we're a growing movement, nuclear rogue state yada yada) I got bored halfway through, despite being curious how he'd respond. It read like an antizionist AI with the "smug" setting dialled to max.

Has there been a single vigil? A solidarity march?
What's the most substantive non-tweet action any Canadian politician or community has taken in response to all this over the past 30 months?

I think everyone agrees musicians need to compensated but some shows really get gutted when they come to streaming with a lot of "this has the same vibe" generic music replacing great stuff.
When you remember the original it can really take you out of the show, though it's otherwise great to have.
