sorry to the people who want mech drawings I’ll do more of them as soon as I have the ability to not be dividing energy between 4 urgent things at once

in case you haven’t noticed when I’m finding it hard to make time to illustrate btwn board projects drawing my favorite girl makes it easier to stay motivated

did this one on mobile and once again forgot to hit record timelapse which really sucks because i was kind of excited to see this one
wanted to make sure i finish an illustration this month and have had an idea for a frilly gothic TFA outfit for shooj for a while

and of course none of that is to say that if you use procreate it’s making your art worse or anything like that
you can make just about any program work for you
but if you think the limitation of your software is slowing you down and you related to anything I said, it might not hurt to branch out!

I’m sure it’s really difficult to stand out as a piece of creative software and I respect that procreate has committed to having such a strong identity, but I just don’t think I’ll ever personally find use for it outside of very specific, occasional things

you can get away with that to a certain extent for illustration, but animation is so much more of a methodical and time intensive process that the deliberate stripping back and opaqueness will only keep compounding over time
you can’t expect more from your audience and offer less

I think that’s a big part of why procreate dreams was such a letdown for a lot of people
they made a procreate animation app, but they executed it in a way that was deliberately restrictive and counterintuitive to anyone who wasn’t using it the exact way they envisioned

I think procreate has improved a lot about improving tools or offering more tools that act the way you’d expect them to over the years, but imo there’s still this underlying philosophy where the app is designed to be used in a certain way and trying to customize it feels hostile

I know a lot of first time users find desktop drawing programs overwhelming but the thing is that information exists and is accessible for the sake of transparency, ideally the program isn’t trying to hide something or perform a function that is unknown to you
many of procreate’s tools feel opaque

there are very few reworked tools in procreate that I feel improve on the experience of digital drawing
I understand that they have a philosophy of simplicity but part of why I prefer digital illustration is the lack of latency between things like layers, switching tools, manipulation, etc

tbf I’ve just never “clicked” with the mobile workflow as well as desktop but I feel that especially for procreate, which seems dedicated to having bespoke ways to do things that have been standard for decades
sometimes it works (their brush engine is totally unique) but many times it doesn’t

I don’t think I’m knowledgeable or experienced enough to have opinions about whether or not procreate could ever be “industry standard” but on a personal level im conflicted about it
it has a lot of things it does well and it benefits by being very unique but I think it also kind of suffers for it

I need women to know that I can cook not in a homemaker way but in an I could be a great work from home husband way
kind of like a dog that can entertain itself during the work day but even better because I can make soup

that’s kind of what I figured, we’ve seen so many gimmick horror movies ATP that the only surprising thing to me is that people still think having a gimmick is enough to sell it
isn’t lost on me that they love the horror genre—always feels kind of belittling/condescending to me

sure maybe you can make this dog run around, but Messi delivered a nuanced and haunting portrayal of silent guilt and faked being poisoned, so i will not be easily impressed by air bud tier acting from this so-called "lead"

someone will need to tell me if that dog horror movie is any good because i am very skeptical of gimmicks like that on principle, but also my standard for dog actors was risen immensely by anatomy of a fall. is this dog any good at acting? did they hire a nepo baby dog

I know I could never use tiktok because of this im such an ass about art education and it’s basically impossible to educate about anything in a video that’s 2 seconds and made to maximize engagement with 12 year olds

the most annoying one I see is when people just say “color theory is insane” and they’re talking about color constancy. that’s psychology!! it’s really cool and it’s interesting to learn about but calling it “color theory” makes it seem unapproachably huge and complicated!!

I know I’m just nitpicking but I do wish people would use specific terminology instead of just saying “color theory” any time they want to describe a vastly different range of principles, if they aren’t just using it incorrectly… give the audience something to research…

I need to get a cinephile girlfriend because all my gay friends my age are interested in like vocaloid and warrior cats

detective horror movies are one of my favorite things on the planet so to make one that underwhelms me is a real feat in making me sad
idk again Im looking forward to seeing if Perkins redeems himself but just a bizarre situation

I know this take isn’t hot at all but i really just can’t get over how much longlegs felt like an attempt to replicate the current horror aesthetic without having anything to say
there were great individual elements and actors but all of them felt misdirected or misused
such wasted potential

I honestly think ari aster is kind of overrated but that’s not saying much when the rating people give him is so high, I genuinely enjoy his films and even comparing visual style (Perkins’ skill is definitely in style over substance) I think Aster gives way more to chew on

and I’m saying this as someone who is a fan of Brandon Cronenberg’s work
I’m always more than happy to change my mind on a director but I’m kind of shocked by the amount of work Perkins has gotten in the past few years
compared to the caliber of horror directors working right he doesn’t match up

haven’t seen keeper yet and I’m always open to directors redeeming themselves but oz perkins is probably the purest example I can think of of a true industry plant horror movie director

for the record ik a lot of working artists who balance multiple things and i really don’t think there’s anything shameful about it! but admittedly i do have to humble myself sometimes when I’m taking myself and my craft very seriously… look in the mirror buddy
