How do you like to approach actions as a DM? Do you like to follow the rules as written - this then that? Or do you prefer to let the player's do some interpretation on how their actions actually play out "How do you see this happening?"

Curious how other tables handle this:
Do you prefer debriefs after every session, or only after emotionally heavy ones? Is this dependent on experience levels of player, or perhaps just the specific topics that happened during the session?

While always fun, I don’t think every session needs a twist, a reveal, or a cliffhanger. Some of my favorite sessions were “quiet” ones that just let characters exist, or ended up being a prolonged conversation between the players and an occasional NPC. What’s a low-stakes session you remember?

DMs/designers: what’s your starting point when designing encounters in your campaigns? Theme, mechanics, NPCs, environment, or vibes? Where do you start the planning?

When designing a new game, do you have a ruleset in mind (at least to base it on), or do you come up with your rule system after you do some of the worldbuilding writing? Asking for a friend.

Wait... WTF??? If you have multiple tabs open in your browser and you hit Ctrl+ a number, it will switch to that number tab in the line! How did I NEVER KNOW THIS!?!?

What 4E got wrong - status effects. Trying to keep track of ALL those was a nightmare and is what, to me, felt like the main issue dragging out combat longer than it needed to be.

D&D 4E got two major things right for me:

1. Minions - throwing normal monsters into the fray with only 1 HP each added so much damage and risk, but generally didn't prolong combat in any meaningful way.

2. Daily, Encounter, and At-will abilities - I really liked this aspect of combat.

Today's mood - I am a neo-maxi zoom dweebie. I won't be taking any questions.

Two words hooked me on this game: Chainsaw Ships. Don't get me wrong, there's a WHOLE lot more to love about the system and the worldbuilding and the characters, but chainsaw ships was the first thing that caught my eye.

What are three ways you've recovered from a TPK during one of your TTRPGs?

OK, you’ve got all the players you need and you have a schedule that works for everyone. What’s the next biggest hurdle into getting your game going?

Did a little homemade harvest fest this weekend. Last of the garden tomatoes went into tomato soup. Also fresh croutons, and some chicken and bacon soup, and an Italian sammy with mortadella, pepperoni. salami, and prosciutto. It was so cozy and delicious!

What's your game plan(s) for this week?

For my monday group, depending on what decision they make at the start of the session, they may just run into Strahd for the first time (dun dun dunnn!). Still working out what voice I want to use for him.

For my Thursday group... well, they better run!

Happy Halloween all! What are you dressed up as?

Me, I'm dressed up as an adult who has it together, is responsible, has free time and discretionary spending.

It's a stretch, but I think I pulled it off pretty well!

My players had 3 days in Waterdeep to waste between turning in one job and the next one starting up.

So now they've placed bets on themselves and are heading down to level 3 of Undermountain in the Yawning Portal to make some money.

5. Specifically for those who have done multiple campaigns. Use your historical data to properly MSRP your products. If your history is setting MSRP and then within months reducing your own prices it’s going to make you seem less trustworthy. Theres one major publisher that does this ALL the time.
