Science and maths, finance, politics, and I will like/share art until my fingers fall off. Sometimes obsess about weird bits of regulation. Was paid to write about video games in a past life.

There are a bunch of non-dairy plant yoghurts/creams that work well as a base type thing for sauces - many recipes are easier to modify than you may think; vegan section is a lifesaver, honestly. Source: Mum is coeliac and dairy-intolerant so we have to be a bit creative. Otherwise: lemon+spice rubs

🚨🚨 "The ECHR is not some foreign imposition that curtails our sovereignty. It was born of British leadership after the horrors of the Second World War, drafted with heavy British influence, and championed by Winston Churchill himself". Great stuff by Sir Robert Buckland KC:

Some of you will 'importance of institutions' post and then try to rehabilitate the Separatists.

If you see a lucre hulk, the best thing you can do for society is to void the insurance policy with a pair of well-placed proton torpedoes from inside the hanger bay.

we would all be much better off if the crimes committed by the rich for their own amusement were treated more seriously than the crimes of desperation and necessity committed by the less fortunate

ME: Now Mom, just remember, there's a lot of disinformation and AI in your social feed and your friends' Facebook.
MOM: I know! My friend sent me this crazy post where someone used AI to make an image of a giant frog fighting Army troops!
ME: ... okay, no, that one's ... goddamit, Portland.

Politically then, we should not get bogged down in he-said-she-said stuff.

Is Trump a Putin asset? Formally, we don’t know, but he acts in a way that someone wishing to promote Putin’s objectives would. He is a huge asset to the Kremlin, whether he knows it or not. That’s the crucial thing.

09.10.2025 16:35 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Of course, security services should be investigating such potential links, but short of incontrovertible publicly reproducable proof of agreements, instructions, or money, which frankly are not going to be found, this stuff is easily dismissed by supporters and not solid enough for media furorre.

09.10.2025 16:32 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The reality was that, whatever any links there may or not have been between prominent Brexiters or their organisations and Moscow, some of them were avowedly pro-Putin and Brexit itself was a Kremlin wet dream.

They were doing Putin’s work whether or not they were instructed or paid to.

Not to undermine important journalism, but the drip-feeding out of he-met-him-and-they-are-linked-to-them-and-he-met-them here-and-had-business-interests-there stuff had next to zero impact, and fed the narrative that people were out to get them by construing any links at all as damning.

09.10.2025 16:25 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

A lesson from Brexit is whether someone is a formally a Russian asset is not the most important question to ask. The high burden needed to prove it makes it an opportunity for dissembling and dismissal as innuendo.

The important question is if Trump acts in Putin’s interests, and he certainly does.

Nuanced take is that, whilst Europe and the US are gaining rapidly from a relatively low based, the global chips market is growing rapidly too. So the gain in market share is much more muted.
