This take (submitted by anonymous, not Gus) is so stupid to me lmao. There's a lot of reasons people like the low ink scene over top level. The biggest is its a scene that more people are competing in!!! Like no shit people are more invested in the tournament series they play in!! #compsplatoon

We need more dapple players (it has 2 teleports) every patch the slider one gets better.

So so proud of my team and how clear our progress has been. When we played our first FTIU, we didn't win a single match. Now we're consistently making silver bracket. Consistent hard work really does pay off 💜 (next time i wont generationally fumble and roll off the map with my crab in overtime)

I don’t wanna be rude, but it is kinda clear you don’t really understand how the splatoon scene is structured, and just how much it differs from fighting games, and even other shooters. The culture is very different, but I recommend reading what Tess is saying

Yeah that's where I'm at. If I got a little deeper into open DE tournaments or organizing was easier (with decent quality people), then I think my opinion of them would shift.

But I'm an adult who only wants to play with adults. The organizing isn't easy. Thus open DE is always a tradeoff for me.

I don’t mind losing, but I don’t like DE because if I’m gonna lose, I at least want to play more because imo there’s more to learn over the course of 120+ minutes compared to not 30. But not everyone agrees with that and it’s fine

I don’t think this is entirely what she’s trying to say, though? Organizing 4+ people who have busy schedules and trying to find a date to play a tournament is really hard. To do all that work only to get in >30 minutes of play time can feel like a waste of time.

The very people who tell you “we should improve as a community” are the people who need to first take a hard look in the mirror before saying that to others.

But I think we also need to have a talk about--across all skill levels, but obviously this is very applicable to top level--how can we treat each other with more kindness? In what way is your ego getting in the way?

I don't understand the vitriol towards skill capped tournaments over the past couple days. I wouldn't have stayed interested in comp if my only option to consistently fight ppl at my skill level in a tournament was low ink once a month. Losing is learning but not fun imo.

Is the mentality that will make the top-level teams win against JP the same one that will make Splatoon comp more enjoyable for the majority of players? I'm not equipped to answer that question, but it concerns me that it's not being asked.

Yeah quite literally this. We complain about our scene being small and not gaining players, and the solution is not to take away lower level events, because that will only drive away newcomers. We need to start investing more in our new players, not turning them away

And “we give too many resources to low level” is an unspeakably cold take. The reason our scene is at a deficit is because it’s so small and top level players HAVE to be low level players at one point. FreeFlow qualified for SWS and 2 years ago? August 2023? They were low ink eligible.
