Also that 'behind the curtain' isn't literal... You don't slide off the catafalque straight into the cremator but people will have memories of 'seeing the flames'
I do still get jittery when it's time to push the 'close curtains' button in case they get stuck or I have mistimed it.

Thank you @revrachelmann.bsky.social for putting this in my feed this morning. Much laughter at the breakfast table.

This week we were having coffee in church not church hall so I warned them "when I say go in peace, don't go very far."

We did a crem tour at the start of vicar training - it is genuinely fascinating stuff & so few people ever really ask the questions about it all

A blue sofa. Me (a woman in a pink jumper and blue jeans) sitting with terrible posture, reading a book (Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy L Sayers) Two cats, one black and white and one tabby and white are sitting on the back of the sofa. A large brown labradoodle is asleep on the floor. I can tell you in this alt text that the cats are called Lord Peter (black & white) and Miss Climpson, and the dog is Bunter.

Rest day afternoon in full swing here

It's all very quiet here this rest day afternoon but we were over in your manor for lunch at Mudlarks earlier

That is... a typo...

I have had that too and also did a double-take...

Oh, this sounds amazing. I hope there was also a loud klaxon or similar for 'this is more of a comment than a question but...'

More direction signs than you think you need. If you have multiple rooms for concurrent events, people find navigating hard. Even with the buildings' own signs.

Coral background with faint heart illustrations. A glossy male Blackbird with a bright yellow bill faces left. Large title reads: β€œBirds as bad exes*” Smaller text reads: β€œ*Yes, you read that right.”

I was enjoying the ability to push and then jump sideways onto one's tea tray landing exactly

I mean, it's great for Matt Weston but it does feel a bit like a metaphor for something...

4.20pm and I'm just sitting down to do what I'd planned to start immediately after lunch.

There has been rowing today, which makes everything better.

Are you going to disappoint it by just putting it back after it heroically rescued proceedings today...?

07.02.2026 19:08 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh yes, I can see why that is easier when there's a lot else going on. Then I have nothing else to offer!

What about a stick blender? Does that work with your soup technique?

I now have the answer. Shiny new laptop has an ARM processor which apparently means Nothing Old Works With It.

Possibly including me

Thought I had seen it all in terms of theatre-going entitlement but this evening the person sitting next to me physically moved the older man in front of her, holding his shoulders and straightening his leaning head out of her eye line.

Well, yes... Good to see you again too. Tell me how life is going! (But not now, as it is almost past my bedtime).

Do I know anyone who can explain to a tired priest why a her new laptop won't install either Adobe Acrobat or the correct printer drivers?
Lost about 2 days in the past fortnight ferreting about for solutions.
Gained about 2lb from necessary chocolate consumption

Does meeting for coffee help?

Please do talk to archdeacon! It's not really OK at all.

Current mysteries in the Vicarage:
1. The whereabouts of the clock pendulum and key.
2. Why my new laptop tells me it's installed Acrobat reader & the printer drivers, and then... hasn't.
3. Where the afternoon has gone.

Sparkly feet in church today! This morning's service included a thanksgiving for a child, whose young relatives brought glittery joy one step at a time.

Now, can you tell me where the key and the pendulum for a clock went after we moved house? It WAS in the drawer in the dining room. But the drawer was given away with the sideboard.

Beautiful pussums. I am sad for you.

Actual English church. On the outside.

I watched that yesterday, too. Beautifully silly but also interesting exploration of forgiveness... And outside scenes filmed in a church not too far from here.
