Yesterday’s walk brought, besides the usual suspects like yellowhammers, wrens, and robins, also a group of siskins (here’s one feeding on alder cones) and even a corn bunting sitting in the budding branches, quite a rare sight here.

We currently have mudstorm, i guess it is not a proper word, but it is what it is 😬 we had three weeks of winter (much more than usually) and before that month of mist and rain. Now, snow is gone and mud is everywhere..anyway, enjoy winter!

Yesterday’s weather was quite demanding, and the mix of snow and rain really tested my decision to switch to the well‑sealed OM system equipment. Here’s a nuthatch in its typical pose, watching the snowfall. Anyway, winter seems to be over here in Czechia.

Thank you! I spent quite a bit of time figuring out where this bird was. It kept moving erratically along the ditch and finally hid in the rose branches. The only way to get a clear view was to lie down in the mud :) The photo was taken at 800β€―mm FF equivalent, so it was shot from quite a distance.

πŸ˜ƒ i got one, she hates cold though, so usually i go for my photo hikes alone. Then, i took her and our dogs out for shorter, more dynamic walks

Thank you! After I came back home, my daughter took me out skating at the local open ice rink, and the movement helped, at least until heavy rain started about ten minutes before the end 😁

Sometimes the story behind the photo is better than the photo itself. In thick snowfall, I lay on a wet road, camera aimed into a ditch tangled with wild roses, hoping the shot of a tiny wren would be worth the cold. This one made the cut, one keeper out of more than twenty.

Winter hit us again, so today’s walk was in a chilly wind with fresh snow. This treecreeper couldn’t care less.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Birds&Bugs. This tiny #pygmyowl was pretty proud of the grasshopper it had caught and cached on the branch below.

I am in Europe and these are quite common, but also shy, so these are my first good snaps. I had to google northern flicker and what a beautiful bird. I hope to see one when I am in Calgary this summer

exactly!
In the woods I often hear them, but usually I only see them as they fly away.
This time this one was not too shy

Two more shots of a green woodpecker from today. I’m still amazed it let me to approach to reasonable distance. When I meet them in the woods, they’re usually very shy

Green Woodpecker
Often seen foraging on the ground, breaking into anthills or feeding on other insects. This one was taking advantage of the freshly unfrozen banks of the Morava River today.

Thank you and that's the truth. I would also add a light into the equation. From yesterday’s roughly 12β€―km walked, this was captured within a few hundred meters, when the light wasn’t awful, just bad 😬 otherwise it looked like this
