I want to be hopeful Embrace the warmth of your sun Give full-body smiles free reign Open my arms wide Let my soul skip But I know the pattern Joy is where we start In that undeniable haze Until I take a deep breath And find myself in hiatus I want to be hopeful But I know this script So I take in each scene, each gesture Until space and fear sets in And the effortless becomes effort less We twirl like leaves in the wind Spinning until we’re no longer Only traces of electricity And whispers of be hopeful morph Into taunts of be hope, fool The voice of the whisperer Is the same as the one who taunts Maybe it wasn’t what was said But how I heard Be hopeful When the plea was, “Be hope.
