Comment: LNG start-up flaring is a public-health blind spot β€” and B.C. is ignoring it LNG terminals burn nearly three times more gas during their first two years of operation than afterward.

We all have blind spots, which is why it is important to check them regularly especially while driving an economic engine forward.

Opinion: BC’s massive carbon bomb approval is an act of arson β€” BC Climate Emergency Campaign By Dr. Melissa Lem, Kai Nagata, and Emiko Newman.

By approving Ksi Lisims, the BC gov has chosen the side of the fossil fuel industry at the exact moment global markets are shifting to renewables.

Carney raised Keystone XL pipeline revival in meeting with Trump | CBC News Relief for Canada from U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum may come thanks to renewed interest in a pipeline project first proposed more than 15 years ago.

This is extremely alarming. Prime Minister @mark-carney.bsky.social won the federal election promising to make us *less* depending on the US. Now we are hearing reports that he is offering up a CLOSER energy and military partnership in exchange for a trade deal... 🧡

We joined hereditary leaders from Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan, the City of Victoria and Stand.earth to speak at a press conference to kick off the fall session of the BC Legislature.
We’re calling for respect for First Nations rights and title and real climate action, not more subsidies for polluters.

New research shows LNG terminals burn nearly 3Γ— more gas in their first two years, releasing toxic air pollution that B.C. isn’t tracking. Doctors say this public-health blind spot puts frontline communities at risk.

US West Coast refiners boost imports of light Canadian crude Canadian waterborne exports of light crude to the U.S. West Coast have surged since the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion (TMX) began operating in May, data shows, surprising some market participants who thought it would mainly be used to send heavy crude to Asia and California.

And here's a kicker – less than half the oil coming through the TMX pipeline is going to Asia. A majority of the TMX oil is actually going to the U.S. west coast - the very country from which this new proposal claims to liberate us!

So PLEASE, could we just move on! And invest in the infrastructure we actually need to hasten our transition off fossil fuels, leave this deadly industry behind, and create hundreds of thousands of new green jobs that are insulated from Trump and the U.S.

PetroChina offloads TMX crude pipeline commitment | Latest Market News PetroChina Canada is no longer a shipper on the 590,000 b/d Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) crude pipeline, less than six months after Canada's newest pipeline went into service.

Late last year, PetroChina chose to offload its shipment commitments to TMX, very likely because China is moving on, with its solar capacity exploding.

Opinion: B.C. has a revenue problem, not a spending problem Experience from early 2000s shows that underfunding public services and failing to address poverty leads to higher economic and social costs

BC folks! Outstanding piece here by @iglikaivanova.bsky.social, co-ED of @bcpolicy.bsky.social.

BC has a revenue problem, not a spending problem

The solution to BC’s fiscal challenges isn’t spending cuts. Instead, BC needs progressive revenue measures.

Start-up emissions at B.C. LNG plants systematically underestimated, finds study Researchers say B.C. regulators have underestimated pollution by ignoring LNG terminal start-up emissions.

A new study from @cape-acme.bsky.social finds that the amount of methane gas burned during the start-up of an LNG export terminal is nearly THREE TIMES higher than during regular operations, threatening the health of neighboring communities.😷

The BC government's decision to contribute $200 million for infrastructure needed to electrify Cedar LNG begs the question: can other energy-hungry projects expect similar hand outs? Ksi Lisims LNG? What about the KSM mine? Montney Basin O&G?
