Less sucrose (Suc) is allocated to the stem due to increased expression of SUC2 and SUC3. The combination of low sucrose synthase (SS) cleavage activity and low expression of Cellulose Synthase (CES) results in the inhibition of cellulose synthesis.

Today I learned that the common houseplant Zamioculcas (the zz plant) is monocot w/ pinnately compound leaves. So called leaves are in fact leaflets. Unlike most species w/ compound leaves, the leaflets of zz plants are highly regenerative, from which whole plants can be readily regenerated.

I made the mistake of planting one of these in my garden.

I never got rid of it 🙈
