A single palm tree stands tall with the Pacific Ocean blue behind it. A chain link construction fence surrounds the area and the palm’s trunk and lower leaves are charred black. Its top fronds are a bright healthy green in contrast.
1 year later. Took PCH to LAX yesterday and while I’ve driven this route many times since it reopened, it’s sobering every time.
Traffic stopped so I had time to notice the fresh green fronds growing atop its charred trunk. This is hope.
