En verano organizamos un encuentro en la Ibero, para reflexionar en torno a las más recientes opiniones consultivas de la #CorteIDH, la #CIJ e #ITLOS, respecto a las obligaciones de los Estados ante el cambio climático.

🌳 And, finally, I held a consultation with experts on air quality and health, who shared valuable insights and contributions for my upcoming report.
It was an honor, as Special Rapporteur, to take part in these events, share experiences, and learn from so many inspiring people

🌱 I also met with Theodoros Roussopoulos, PACE President, to exchange perspectives on advancing the recognition of the right to a healthy environment.

🏛️ In Strasbourg, I participated in a side event organized by analyzing the importance and opportunity for the Council of Europe to finally and explicitly recognize the right to a healthy environment through a legally binding mechanism.

🌍 Spoke with representatives from several State missions to share updates from my mandate and discuss advancing the implementation of my reports’ recommendations.

Also, I had the honor of moderating a panel on the role of regional human rights mechanisms in accountability and remedy for environmental harm, with representatives from courts and commissions across Africa, Europe, ASEAN, and the Americas.

I talked about the status of recognition and implementation of the #RightToAHealthyEnvironment. I highlighted the Advisory Opinion of the #ICJ concluding that this right is essential for all other human rights.

Back from an inspiring week in Geneva and Strasbourg! I’ll try to make a summary:

I participated in the triennial Workshop on Regional Human Rights Organizations, this year focused on the right to a healthy environment and how to coordinate for its effective implementation.

Another thing to celebrate is the entry force of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, an important step in global ocean governance. By halting harmful subsidies, this agreement becomes a powerful tool for protecting fisheries

The #BBNJ is a landmark for the protection of the #HighSeas and the deep seabed. We praise the inclusion of the precautionary principle, the recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and the requirement to undergo environmental impact assessments.

Today #WorldMaritimeDay2025, we welcome a historic milestone: the ratification of the Agreement on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (#BBNJ), which will enter into force in January 2026.
