Gurdwara Joins Lawsuit to Protect Houses of Worship from ICE Raids The Sikh Coalition is proud to support this critical effort.

We worked with DF on the first lawsuit by providing critical context on the Sikh faith and community, as well as by connecting them with gurdwarae across the nation who considered joining. Ultimately, Gurdwara Sahib West Sacramento decided to sign on. www.sikhcoalition.org/blog/2025/gu...

Earlier this year, DF filed a similar case and secured a ruling to prevent immigration raids at the specific houses of worship that were plaintiffs in the case. This new lawsuit seeks immediate relief for additional congregations and houses of worship across the country.

In January, the Trump Administration rescinded longstanding DHS guidance against immigration enforcement at “sensitive locations”—including houses of worship. DF argues that this rescission "violates the First Amendment, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act."

In the days before the hearing, some groups pushed for changes that would’ve weakened SB 509—but thanks to the persistence of advocates and lawmakers, thoughtful amendments were made that still maintain the bill's integrity.
