Writer/editor focused on American history (especially the Progressive Era and World War I) and political science, funding for youth music education. Proud University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee alumnus. Opinions mine. A repost isn’t necessarily an endorsement.

This remains one of the most disturbing stories of the year. A 1st trimester fetus incubated in a dead woman's body against the will of her family until a very early term birth when the corpse could no longer sustain life.

Did Hegseth think think Pentagon reporters wouldn't talk with their sources before they left the building? Or that they wouldn't have strong sourcing just because they left?

The CIA has the OK to undertake covert ops in Venezuela.
The FBI is spying on immigration activists.
DHS is spying on almost all of us.
It's a good time for @nsarchive.bsky.social to highlight the Church Committee report, which investigated intel abuses.
Who's going to be the next Frank Church?
The Supreme Court deciding it's entitled to its own facts is every bit as corrosive to democratic society as the breakdown of shared facts/reality caused by media fragmentation and negative partisanship
05.12.2025 01:31 — 👍 49 🔁 20 💬 1 📌 3Democrats can retaliate against these GOP gerrymanders with new maps in Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, & Virginia.
They could flip 7 GOP seats to make up for this & new GOP maps in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, & possibly soon Indiana.
Imposing costs is the only way to deter the GOP from doing this
And now we wait for the other shoe to drop.

25 years ago John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and AC Barrett all worked on GWBush's 2000 Florida recount team. What they're doing now is, if anything, more nakedly partisan.
Fire-breathing dissent by Kagan, with Sotomayor and Jackson.

Sen Ron Johnson 9/11 Truther
Senator Ron Johnson went on a conspiracy show to promote 9/11 Truther-type nonsense.
This is a sitting U.S. Senator.
What's changed is that the Court has become more transparent in its corruption. There's not even an argument here beyond the implicit one which is: how do you expect us to hold the House without those seats?

05.12.2025 00:18 — 👍 88 🔁 32 💬 4 📌 1Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.
Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.
Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett are bad-faith actors who abuse SCOTUS power to support Republican policies, Republican billionaires, and Republican political power in defiance of law.
They won’t stop until we expand the court.
To average Americans these rulings come out of the blue, because there's no oral argument and less focus on the shadow docket. And when the Court fails to explain its emergency rulings, they undermine their own legitimacy because they appear to be acting in an unprincipled way.

It is simply impossible to believe on this record that this would have been the lineup (or a stay issued at all) if the district court had found a racial gerrymander in a large blue state.
