I was just starting my career in San Francisco when the Great Recession happened and I’ve always felt incredibly lucky SF was barely impacted by it. I don’t feel confident I’ll get that lucky twice.

You understand how blaming Dems for everything that happens creates an info environment that helps Republicans win right?

This compromise means that US political parties are strange institutions, quite unlike political parties in other democratic countries. It would be barely overstating the case to say that the US simply doesn’t have political parties. The two major US political parties are perhaps best viewed not as civil society organizations but as features of the US electoral system; in this interpretation, the US effectively has a two-stage β€œrunoff” electoral system like the French presidential election system, where anyone can run in the first round and the top two vote-getters then run head to head. But unlike in France, the first stage of this runoff is organized on roughly ideological lines, where candidates who choose to label themselves as vaguely left-of-center run in a separate first-round election from candidates who choose to label themselves as vaguely right-of-center. In this analysis, becoming a β€œmember” of a major party means no more than deciding which first-round election to vote in. The parties aren’t so much civil society organizations that have their major internal decisions shaped by electoral law, as features of the electoral law that for historical reasons are named after formerly significant institutions in civil society.

this is a really key point that a lot of lefty critics of Democrats would be wise to internalize

Again, I do understand this but there is nothing about his role running the Minnesota Democratic Party that suggests he pushes a centrist approach to politics. Nor is there any indication that Ben was any more progressive than him.

I understand the feeling, but the party chair literally just raises money and does nothing else.

I truly believe in the promise of America, a land where all people have the opportunity to live up to their full potential, whoever they are and however they define it. It makes my blood boil to watch all these mediocre men in the Trump administration tear down that promise out of spite.

Yeah, about to fucking be you useless dipshit. Do you understand that Trump is going to try and move Palestinians out of Gaza and the West Bank into other countries with no ability to return? Are you just a moron?

27.01.2025 00:12 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Sure you are. You don’t give a single shit that Gaza and the West Bank are about to be ethnically cleansed. Doesn’t bother you in the slightest.

27.01.2025 00:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

You definitely can’t. People who want to destroy the world because they think β€œit’s already shitty so who cares” are trash. Like you.

Things aren’t shitty for you or you wouldn’t be sitting online posting constantly. And things aren’t getting shitty for me, they’re getting shitty for my immigrant neighbors, for my trans friends, for fucking Palestinians who you dick shits pretend to care so much about.

This isn’t about β€œbest” anything. This is about not wrecking everything, which you don’t care about because you’re a well off little shit who doesn’t have to care when things get worse.

the world they want is one where you're either unemployed or work an almost no wage job, you have almost no political input or self determination and you’re happy about it because you can get a t-shirt off temu for a $1

Maybe this isn’t a fucking football game and people who care about this aren’t β€œcheering” for teams but instead are trying to cling to the best possible outcomes so that we don’t dig an even bigger hole to have to climb out of.

And Marc hasn’t made a relevant investment in like 15 years. He’s done nothing but fail for a while now. Why should anyone respect anything he says?

Like most online β€œleftists” you’d rather be right and lose every single fucking time instead of accomplish absolutely anything. Take a hike you Republican, fascist enabler.

No, you are deeply unserious in your understanding of what happened and in your understanding of how common it was at the time to block Supreme Court justices. Getting Anthony Kennedy instead of Bork is an absolutely incredible moment that you don’t give two shits about.

If you’ve been paying attention to Joe Biden since Anita Hill you’d know he voted against Clarence Thomas in committee and on the floor. You’d also know he is one of the people most responsible for blocking Robert Bork before Thomas.

It’s also clear there are better ways to do this stuff. Trader Joe’s doesn’t need to lock anything up because the layout of their stores and their high employee to aisle ratio.

and now we get a day where trump nominates an alleged pedo criminal to be the nation's AG, fun to think about how totally ignored Trump's long history with notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was. Turned out to be a pretty relevant story! But was Tim Walz in China in July or September 1989?!

Conservatives act like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are terrifying hellholes. In reality, they’re three of the safest (if not the three safest) large cities in the United States. I get very tired of having to hear all three places get trashed by idiots.
