So I discovered that this was actually the movie Ti West made first and Pearl was filmed afterwards. They’re both connected, I won’t spoil that, but I think I liked Pearl a bit more.

Movie 16 - Last Night in Soho (2021)

Enjoyed this one more than I thought I was going to. Beautifully shot movie.

Movie 15 - Pearl (2022)

Decided to watch this one based on Guillermo Del Toro’s praise for Mia Goth’s performance in it, and well-deserved praise it is. Charming with vibrant, violent outbursts.

Movie 14 - Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

It’s not a good movie, so many plot holes and unresolved/unexplored threads. Is it a bad movie? Nah, there’s some okay action sequences.

Movie 13 - Cuckoo (2024)

Hunter Schafer gives a phenomenal performance, the movie itself weird and stylish in a wonderful way.

The whole weird cuckoo/alien/supernatural thing was a lot

Movie 12 - The Night Eats The World (2018)

Original title: La nuit a dévoré le monde. Delightful independent zombie movie set in Paris, focused one man surviving but struggling to stay sane in the loneliness.

Movie 11 - Vivarium (2019)

I don’t know whether I enjoyed it but I was a compelling watch. Deeply, deeply strange. Dark and entirely uncomfortable.

Movie 10 - Never Let Go (2024)

Heck. Tremendously underrated movie. Go watch it.

Movie 9 - The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)

Not entirely sure why this got such poor reviews? Nice little segment of the Dracula lore/mythos.

Movie 8 - Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

Less horror-coded than the first movie and more action oriented, honestly a bit like with The Purge. I suspect the studio had a heavy hand in that.

I have a huge soft spot for the RE movies. I know they’re kinda trashy but I have fond memories of watching them.

Movie 6 - There’s Someone Inside Your House (2021)

Slasher movie, had the potential to be great with an interesting modern twist on the genre but it doesn’t deliver on the promise of its only piece of innovation.

Movie 5 - Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

Enjoyable despite Keanu’s accent being all over the place.

Movie 4 - Bird Box (2018)

Better than I expected it to be, this may be down to Sandra Bullock. The girl/boy thing was silly, I get why it was done but still.

I love this movie so much, it’s near damn perfect.

You’re not wrong. I feel like it’s a case of smaller scope project that had enough of a concept to build on. Near dystopian America usually tends to resonate regardless of genre.

Movie 2 - The Purge: Anarchy (2014)

It does some more world building and broadens the scope, which is great. More action than the original and generally a bit better.
