Characterizing the Effects of Policy Instruments on Cost and Deployment Trajectories of Direct Air Capture in the U.S. Energy System R&D-driven innovation reduces direct air capture (DAC) learning investment by two-thirds versus incremental deployment Accelerated deployment supports yield minimal cost advantages over increment...

This work raises an important question: Should the industry focus on adapting existing technology from other industries or funding breakthrough technology?

🚨 NEW PAPER🚨
We showed that R&D investment is the most cost effective for reducing DACS costs compared to other scaling methods. However, if the technology is already mature with high learning rates and low potential for technological breakthroughs, then R&D yields no net benefit. #CDR #DAC

Thermal energy networks are the next big thing Could gas utilities transform into "thermal utilities"? Here's how networked heat pumps could give them a whole new business model instead of going extinct.

Eight states across the US are piloting projects that replace fossil gas networks with shared ground-source heat pumps, via @volts.wtf. Any Canadian provinces?

Reality check on technologies to remove carbon dioxide from the air An MIT Energy Initiative study finds many climate-stabilization plans are based on questionable assumptions about the future cost and deployment of β€œdirect air capture” and therefore may not bring abo...

Okay, I have to do a thread on this pretty amazing article because it is just seriously chockers with eye-opening stats about 'direct air capture' - ie, sucking up air and trying to remove carbon dioxide from it
