The failed businessman & son of a failed businessman asked Iran not only 2 give up its defensive missile capabilities, regional alliances, & legally recognizd rt to peaceful use of uranium. They also demanded Iran dismantle its navy. Weird that didn't work out so good for them x.com/Seamus_Malek...

If this is true, the US has decided - days after it launched a war it has quickly lost control of - to bring in the marines. There is no doubt in my mind Trump will put American boots on the ground if his ego demands it. Insane that he thinks he can do this as an afterthought

Don't know how the US returns to Bahrain any time soon. Between the on-going popular uprising and the extensive damage to its assets, Bahrain has become hostile territory x.com/iwasnevrhere...

The main drawback of this website is and forever will be that as a % it is completely unviable to follow MENA when vast supermajority are just Americans. You can not follow anything about the ongoing developments in Bahrain, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq on here

This is the death toll in Iran that some are calling "low." It's only been 3 days & over 700 ppl at least have been killed. Nearly 700 more deaths are being reviewed. That's 1400 deaths in 3 days. Israeli carnage in Palestine has fully shifted the Overton window for folks x.com/AdHaque110/s...

This is win-win for Israel. Iran is its current primary target, but Israel has made clear it will turn to Turkey next. Destabilizing Iran, empowering Kurds, places Turkey in a vulnerable position. Ready to be decapitated next. x.com/ragipsoylu/s...

Looks like attacks on internal security are concentrated in Tehran and Karaj (which is a suburb of Tehran) while the border outpost attacks are in the Kurdistan area. Apparently also a focus on seizing the southern islands though not sure who would be seizing those. US forces? x.com/KarimkhanF/s...

I have seen a lot of really stunning fallout in other regional countries from the US/UK aggression on Iran, but this, from Turkey, is the current winner. x.com/Rd_fas1/stat...

Don't even get me started on how the War Powers Act is a total joke that has done more to facilitate presidential war making than to constrain it.

President's War Powers Letter to Congress (according to requirements of the War Powers Act). Yet more evidence this was an unlawful aggressive attack in no way based in the law of self-defense. /n

Bahrain has been on the brink for a long long time…and the Americans seem to have abandoned it. Saudi forces have arrived with the goal of suppressing the uprising as they did in 2011, but given the energy I've been seeing, repressing this is going to be very hard x.com/ME_Observer_...

Even if Kurdish Iraqi forces invade, they cannot hope to take more than the Kurdistan Region, if they can even secure that. I'm no expert on these issues, but I know enough to be skeptical that any of this will accomplish anything other than lead to more bloodshed.

As with January, Turkey is also likely to assist Iran in thwarting any attack from the Kurds (though Trump may try and pressure Erdogan not to - can't see him giving in). Also remember, Iran has assets inside Iraq itself - those could potentially be activated against the Kurds as well.

Trying to take and more importantly HOLD these highly mixed areas that identify strongly with the Iranian state (even if they don't identify with the govt) will be incredibly incredibly difficult

Relatedly, large parts of what is designated by separatists as part of their future Kurdish state includes large numbers of non-Kurds, including Azeris and members of other groups. My own mother's Azeri family is from Urmia which is in northwestern Iran on the border with Turkey & red on this map

03.03.2026 03:22 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To assume all Iranian Kurds would support or accept separatism is a BIG assumption. There are also tons of different ethnic groups living together and inter-marrying across the country inc in the "Kurdish" part of Iran.

They tried again recently in January, but Turkey alerted Iran to the incursion and it was stopped as well. Obviously this would be on a different level as compared with those efforts. That being said, Kurdish Iranians are just as Iranian as the rest of us. The feeling of nationalism is real.
