I met with DKMS UK | Delete Blood Cancer Blood Cancer UK to speak to them about blood cancer and the importance of stem cell donors
Joining the stem cell register takes just minutes, but for some it could save their life

If you are 16-55 & want to join the register, go to https://www.dkms.org.uk/

Ahead of employee appreciation day....

Thanks to all my staff in the constituency and Parliament, and a special shout out to my two caseworkers who are my longest serving staff - working hard to support both me and all the constituents in Jarrow and Gateshead East for 6 years now!

Today is #WorldBookDay

Reading is such a great way to unwind & is so important for development. I don't get a lot of free time in my role as MP but I do still love to pick up a book to unwind when I canπŸ“–

What’s the best book you’ve read recently??

It was an honour to open the ONE Centre last month & I'm still in awe of the outstanding work already taking place

The new community hub for the LGBTQ+ community in Gateshead is a great asset to our area & I'm looking forward to continuing working closely with Peter, Drew & the team as it grows

Jarrow March Poetry CompetitionπŸ‘‡

Thanks to the Shields Gazette for covering the launch of my Poetry Competition for U19s to enter their original poetry celebrating and remembering the Jarrow March ahead of the 90th anniversary this October

Congratulations as well on their recent move from Jarrow to Windy Nook, and thank you to the team for the very warm welcome.

It was impressive to hear about their work building extensions, conservatories and orangeries, and the investment they’re making in apprentices despite the significant skills gap facing the construction industry.

Great to visit Tyneside Home Improvements and meet Commercial Director Chris, Managing Director Kevin Kerr, and Becky, who retrained as an apprentice after leaving teaching and now works full-time in the construction industry.

March is Women's History Month

It's important we honour & remember those women who tore down barriers so we have the rights & equalities we have today. Though we must continue raising awareness about the discrimination and gender inequalities still present to this day.

My consultation on social media for U16s is still openπŸ‘‡

If you live in Jarrow & Gateshead East, I want to know your views on how social media affects young people - especially in relation to the suggested ban of social media for under-16s.

Share your views πŸ—£οΈhttps://forms.office.com/r/byHPxNrqyE

I have joined over 100 MPs in writing to the FA to express my serious concerns and urging them to do more to protect players and fans from racism, hatred and abuse.
Football is a great unifier and should be protected as such.

Alongside this racism, we also saw Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s hateful comments stating that the UK has been β€œcolonised by immigrants.”

It was extremely disappointing that Ratcliffes vile rhetoric was not more strongly condemned by the FA - this kind of inflammatory and racist language must be called out.

The appalling racist abuse faced by four Premier League players last weekend was unacceptable.

Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri, Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana, Wolves’ Tolu Arokodare and Sunderland’s Romaine Mundle all received racist abuse.

Regime change via bombing and military force never works for the local people or international stability.

We must do what we can now to prevent escalation, protect civilian lives and to ensure the significant numbers of Britons in the region are supported and helped home as soon as possible.

Oman, the mediator of the negotiations between the US & Iran, said that a peace deal was within reach, the unprovoked attacks whilst in the middle of negotiations should therefore be condemned as a flagrant violation of international law

The US and Israel's actions in Iran are illegal; they will create increased instability in an already dangerous world

I have signed my name to a motion urging the Government act on Fire Brigade Union's calls to urgently provide increased funding to the UK’s fire and rescue services, restore firefighter numbers to pre 2010 levels and oppose any further cuts to the fire serviceπŸ‘‡

A quick pit stop at Butty and a Brew on Albert Road ahead of a day full of meetings and visits!

Great to chat with owner Andrew about the success the team are having at their new location and of course I had to pick up a coffee which was delicious

We must urgently change direction and return to policies that show our true Labour values, that deliver for communities and bring hope to many.

Instead of listening, those at the top of our party chose to carry on with their attempts to out reform reform on Immigration, plans to cut welfare and putting their factionalism ahead of the country and party.

27.02.2026 12:38 β€” πŸ‘ 11    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The negative campaigning is a problem and I think always backfires. We should be talking about what we can do and our priorities.

Some of us were pointing out the polling more than a year ago that showed we were losing more voters to the Greens than to Reform.

Ultimately it is his Labour's policies and campaigning that lost us this seat, from his policies on pensions, winter fuel, welfare cuts to immigration - nationally we are not getting it right and we are letting the country down.

Blame for Labour’s defeat in Gorton and Denton sits with Keir Starmer and those running our party.

Starmer personally leading the intervention at the NEC officers meeting to block Burnham was not only obviously a huge error but also showed just how weak he is.

Commiserations to Angeliki Stogia, Labour's loss is no reflection on the hard work that she alongside many activists put into the campaign.

Congratulations to Hannah Spencer and the Green Party, I'm pleased you beat Reform and to have another working class MP in Parliament.
