At a time of conflict, climate crisis and rapid change, international co-operation and solidarity matter more than ever.

This morning Embells Community Support Project will be holding their free community lunch from 11am - 1pm at St Andrews Church Hall.

Their Leam Lane friendship group supported by Age UK Gateshead will also be getting together for a cuppa, chat and enjoying a weekly quiz.

I’ve raised football ticket prices in Parliament and now have joined colleagues tabling a motion against season ticket increases.

So many people are being priced out of football, big clubs must stop taking advantage of fan loyalty by raising prices unnecessarily

I want to also thank and acknowledge the tireless campaigning by Covid19 Bereaved Families for Justice and show my support to their fight to ensure those in power are held to account, and ensure that lessons are learnt.

As we mark this national Day of Reflection, we honour the families and communities who lost loved ones, pay tribute to the NHS staff, key workers and volunteers whose dedication carried us through.

Today is Covid Memorial Day, and whilst the losses will never be forgotten, today we can all spend a moment reflecting on every life lost to the pandemic and the profound impact Covid had and has across the UK.

And I will keep fighting to ensure that we do even more, especially for LBQT women, and to ensure we see greater improvement in women’s health.
So happy International Women’s Day – let’s celebrate our collective power, and recommit to the fight for rights, for justice, and for all women and girls.

Introducing statutory maternity pay from day one, taking decisive action to tackle the epidemic of violence against women & girls, which spiralled under previous Conservative governments.
We are embedding domestic abuse specialists in every 999-control room ensuring immediate support for survivors.

The Labour Government is taking steps to tackle these issues through our landmark VAWG strategy to strengthen women’s rights at work through our Employment Rights Act

Intersectionality means that working class women, Black women, disabled women and LBQT women often receive abuse more frequently and abuse that is compounded and more intense.

We have also seen a rise in sexism and misogyny fuelled by toxic online behaviour - 73% of social media users have witnessed misogynistic content online and it’s something I and many other women experience everyday on social media.

Progress has been made over the years, we still have much more to do.

Women are the shock absorbers of poverty, violence against women and girls still remains at a crisis level and women continue to face systemic discrimination in workplaces, healthcare, politics and in society.

Today on IWD we celebrate the achievements, resilience and strength of women and girls everywhere – from local women in Jarrow and Gateshead East leading the way in our communities to women nationally such as our Lionesses who have inspired a generation of girls into the game.

Thousands of children go missing every year, many of whom are at risk of child criminal and sexual exploitation.

We can all #LookCloser to spot the signs of harm and take action. I met with The Children's Society and took the pledge to #LookCloser to keep young people safe.

This #EndometriosisAwarenessMonth I met with Endometriosis UK to give my support to their important work supporting those living with Endometriosis

We urgently need to reduce diagnosis time & raise awareness of impact endometriosis has on physical & mental health, relationships, education and work

Jarrow March Poetry Competition👇

Thanks to the Shields Gazette for covering the launch of my Poetry Competition for U19s to enter their original poetry celebrating and remembering the Jarrow March ahead of the 90th anniversary this October

Congratulations as well on their recent move from Jarrow to Windy Nook, and thank you to the team for the very warm welcome.

It was impressive to hear about their work building extensions, conservatories and orangeries, and the investment they’re making in apprentices despite the significant skills gap facing the construction industry.
