SUBLIME SONGS: Harvest Moon

It hits me in the feels every time, for reasons I don't understand. I love every cover of this song. Cranky Neil can sure write lovely songs.

With more titles comes less creative work. Writing, which I am inefficient at, will diminish. I will hire more people to do the work I normally do, which will make projects less profitable.

Also, more project may creates backer burnout.....

Hmmmm

I hoped for seven titles in 2024 but only Kickstarted six. Due to the prompting of Zac, I will go for eleven in 2025 but it hard to say if that is remotely achievable.

$37k in Kickstarter funds raised in 2024. Much of it went to freelancers (yay), printing costs, fees and upcoming taxes. Gary's Appendix is clearly the strongest title. As a part time publisher effort, cost and reward are on my mind. What should I do different for 2025? What will I do different?

Designing my first elements for Mausantara as a learning exercise in design and layout for Affinity. This is one of the cover variants. My 12 year old son had no idea I was working on this project until he saw this image. He was so excited to see #Mausritter set in Parahyangan he squeaked.

Drawing of G+ as a slain dead character. RIP 2011-2019

Well, for the moment Bsky is giving off strong vibes. While not the same as G+ was, it's quite good and lively and fun.

I think the G+ days were more innocent and unfiltered and things have changed in ways that make it impossible to ever go back there. For better or worse.

and the rules might be adjusted (per ongoing playtest) but the core writing will be done.

One project I didn't have the manuscript completed after the project funded. I kept second guessing myself if it was truly done or I was just tired of it and was ready to get it out. Another reason I won't put myself into that position again...unless I decide to do a heartbreaker....

08.12.2024 03:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Taking backer money and then struggle to finish is a nightmare. Trying to make a bad premise work or struggling through personal disasters to finish happens.

A friend took a small-ish project to KS a few years ago with no manuscript. He regularly produces contentb but this has been a tale of woe.

08.12.2024 02:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Agreed. Every project is speculation and involves financial risk. My way is right for me, to mitigate my own stress.

But per the OP, I do believe that one should have the lion's share of the writing done or risk "wandering in the wilderness."

08.12.2024 02:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is irony: Kickstarter was intended to fund ideas and make them a reality, but projects fund better if they are close to completion at a campaign's start.
I think the OP is spot on because it reduces stress on the creator/publisher. I try to have proof copies in hand before my campaign starts.

Start out with small projects you wonโ€™t publish and work your way up in complexity. I started by reformatting adventures and existing game rules in a zine format.

Can I get eleven projects to Kickstarter in 2025? Probably not, but is doable unless we have a mild winter and I spent too much time playing disc golf. :D

It suffered most by its apparent small budget, but clearly this series was a work of love by everyone involved.
