So I finally finished @historianheather.bsky.social new book on Bernie Goetz a couple weeks ago, and a few things stand out here. The constant framings from certain media spaces - particularly the NYPost - on criminalizing young Black boys and men.

In the 1980s, the Goetz shooting showed how the media picked the narrative that set the stage for how the story was discussed. It was curated as entertainment, just like a movie.

As Neil Postman quipped, “there’s no business but show business.”
